Overview
Many people debate which Bear Creek Spire route is more classic: the Northeast Ridge or North Arête? The Northeast Ridge follows a striking ridgeline while the North Arête ascends the most dramatic arête on the face. Both routes are awesome and your choice of which route to climb will be more about whether you want sustained technical climbing (North Arête) or mostly 4th class terrain (Northeast Ridge). While in the past this route has been rated 4th class, we call it 5.5 because we do not know anyone who has done the route and not encountered more than a few fifth class sections.
