Nice shot Sam.

The Earthquake Route (Owen: Stoney Pt Guide 1st Edition) was my proud first ascent just 2 weeks after the great Northridge quake.

It was a short top rope problem we used to do all the time in the 1980s but the bottom half fell off in the quake.

2 guys from Redondo Beach set up a TR but could not pull the crux move. I offered to give it a try and pulled on through. They followed after. It was clear due to dust and loose bits that no one else had climbed it yet.

In later editions the route has been downgraded to a boulder problem. Rightly so since it's not very tall and hardly worth setting up a TR.

However the route can be quite sandy and landing is poor so falling, even with pads, is not a good option.

RIP......

Mark you and J have done the very best that you could for Sol. From the first day when you rescued him, trapped in a box- left to die, in till today, he was loved and lived a great life.

I recall the day/nite when he hung out with the good dogs at Cochise and learned how to play and wrassle and run and have fun with other dogs.

Take care.

CHATSWORTH >> A helicopter plucked an injured man off of Stoney Point on Saturday after he fell 20 feet and became wedged between rocks, Los Angeles firefighters said.

The 23-year-old rock climber fell sometime after 2 p.m. at Stoney Point Park, then became trapped between large boulders, said Erik Scott, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters, with the aid of a rescue helicopter, extricated the man and hoisted him to safety, he said. He was flown to a nearby hospital trauma center, where he was listed in serious condition
