Tons of fun in the valley of the dirty climber these days.
Got a little back log on TRs to do but thought I'd throw out a couple photos to see who has some good pre/post rockfall stories.
cheers

Anyone know if the spring near Quarter Domes on the Clouds Rest Trail is running? What about the Half Dome spring?

The spring on the Clouds Rest trail is running, but weakly.

Thanks for the info! I'm planning to do Quarterpounder on the smaller Quarter dome tomorrow, and follow up with the North Ridge of Half Dome Sunday. I'll be relying on water from the springs. I won't need the spring at the base of 1/2 Dome, but will use the one near the shoulder.
Quarterpounder (4 pitches, 5.11a) Is a route I put up with Al Dude a few years ago. It follows a line of solid rock up the center of the face, between two large white exfoliation scars. From the spring on the Clouds Rest trail you walk west (toward 1/2 Dome) until the trail switches back to the east. Continue cross country staight west to the rim of the canyon just south of the Quarter domes. Here there is an awesome "runway-in-the-sky" campsite overlooking Tenaya Canyon with a good view of the West Quarter Dome. The camping is as cool as the climbing! A gully/ledge system drops down and left, providing access to the West (and probably East also) Quarter Dome from above.
The campsite is just out of the frame to the right on Nanooks's picture at the beginning of this thread.

You just gotta laugh at the comment "a line of solid rock between two big white exfoliation scars." How long do you figure it will be, HMMMM? More seriously, sounds like a cool route and having been there I'd attest it's a great place to go.
