Veteran Sierra peak-baggers:
What would you tell a more or less experienced mountaineer about venturing into the high country in October? I've only done a few day hikes in this range.
North facing snow = ice: Check!
"4th class" = sweaty palms: Check!
"3rd class" = palms still sweaty: Check!
Bears still an issue? Most likely, there's still eating to be done before they sleep.
I'd appreciate any thoughts. To save time, there is at least one thing I know ...
...I'm gonna die!!!

I'm just a punter, but that list sounds pretty good so far.
cold snaps = warming in the sun = expansion = rockfall increased potential
oh and check the forecast religiously, because spinning up a SAR team because of failing to check weather is really weakmo.

October is usually perfect up there..
Or, alternatively, go to the Alabama Hills and clip some sh#t then spend the free time you get sharpening your skis and tools for some winter fun.
