Patagonia and Stanford Alpine Club present
Steve House
Monday, September 14th
6:30 p.m. at Patagonia store Palo Alto
525 Alma St in Palo Alto- 650.329.8556 google map
That's right... legendary alpine hardman Steve House is coming to town.
Just a few of his credentials:
Piolet d'Or Award for his ascent with Vince Anderson of the Rupal Face (4100m) on Nanga Parbat
60 hour ascent of the Slovak Direct on Denali with Mark Twight and Scott Backes
solo ascent of K7 via a new line, for the mountain's second ascent
new lines on Mt. Robson and Mt. Alberta in the Canadian Rockies
The Stanford Alpine Club is pleased to be helping the awesome folks at the local Patagonia shop put this event on, so come out to support the club and meet an awesome climber. House will be giving a slide show and reading from his new book, Beyond the Mountain, then signing copies.
Check it out!
P.S.:
Here is what Mark Twight has to say about the book and book tour:
"Reinhold Messner, who is likely the greatest climber to have ever lived
wrote the foreword and in it says, "[Steve] is at the top of
mountaineering. He climbs the right routes on the right mountains in a
time when everyone is climbing Everest. He is also a great storyteller:
he tells about doing, not about morals or lessons." Messner's last
sentence is critical to understanding the value of the book. Where I went
off the deep end of righteousness a few times in Kiss or Kill, Steve
saved himself from this misstep and tells frank, raw stories of what he
has done and how it affected him. His spoken word shows, supported by
quite stunning images, while too short, and fleeting, are powerful even
to the non-climber. If you have a chance to catch him on the book tour do
so."

Rupal Face of Nanga Parbat, 4000m of relief. House-Anderson Route, 2005
from http://www.skywardmountaineering.com/nangaParbat.html
"I had convinced myself at that point that my goal was so important it was worth dying for," says alpine master Steve House about his 15-year-old dream of climbing the Rupal Face.

Yo, No Cal and LA folk should count your blessings daily. Not much ever happens in San Diego County. Tried to get several climbers here for slideshows, Bachar included right before his death. Climbing gyms, outdoor rec stores....etc. not interested. What a closed little world down here. :}

Free.
All the slideshows we organize at Stanford/Palo Alto are free, unless we say otherwise.
(Sorry, I usually forget to mention this!!)
So if you were expecting to pay $10 or something, think of it as a free $10 to spend towards a signed copy of the book!
Hey, it's only $30 to start with, so check it out when you're there, or beforehand.
