climbingnarc.com just posted a link to this very cool video of Alex Honnold free soloing the Regular Northwest Face of Half Dome. I think the full version of this will be in the Reel Rock Tour http://www.reelrocktour.com/

Was there more than like a half second of climbing in that video? Most of it was third class. Cool stuff still. Looking forward to seeing the full video.

thanks for the video!

I think that link is also notable since it contains in the comments the first ever friendly and respectful disagreement on the internet.

Anyone else getting a message that says it is a "password protected" video?

Did I miss the sweetness?

No, it's not just you. According to the guy who orginially posted the video it will be back in a few hours after some changes are made.

The video played right away for me. I like that they focused on him more than the climbing.

In this video the corporate robot is starting to wrap the poor kid into it's hold. Stay raw Alex.

I would like to congrat. Alex in his hour of greatness. I am sure that no honest climber would look away from the achievement, as it is most respectable. I would caution, however, that in 2000' of free-solo climbing ... it only takes one slight miscalculation ... and then the force of gravity at 9.8 m/s^2 takes hold ... and in the long run ... no one would care except your friends and family at your funeral!

BE CAREFUL OUT THERE ... Remember, My hero Johnny Rock! "It is only the last meter that is most dangerous."

The limitation of that kind of vid is that this style was established in the last 80s at MTV to cover stuff down and dirty (no sound design, no writing, gimicky "flash" editing, et al) resulting in an "immediate" feel but no actual content save the eye candy quotient. This is a disposable format that allows some footage while paying only for skin and bones production using prosumer cameras and someone's Final Cut Pro system set up in their garage.

So you have iconic events (Half Dome free solo) presented home movie style. I sort of like the rough edge of this stuff but if yo see this stuff on TV at all it's by and large on low end cable at two AM.
