Very nice write up: as good as it gets!
It stands up quite well on its own merit and suffers not from lack of photographs.
Those words and maps suffice quite well by themselves and are worth a thousand pictures.

Back up to pg.1. The two little fragments I especially liked were "...and told Keith it was still my lead" and the sound like pouring a drink over really cold ice cubes. Great read, really puts the reader right there. Thanks.

That looks like an incredible report. I didn't have time to read it. It looked kind of long. Not that I imagine it is boring, but I just have other stuff to do. Got any reports about any sport climbs?

edit: thanks for taking the time to post it

"Got any reports about any sport climbs?"

Ho Mahhn, now there is a typical supertopo response!!

Yeah Jay, please, fill us in on all those sport routes you've been doing....

Especially for someone who can't take the time to read about a REAL adventure!

Pardon me if the story is inaccurate. I remember reading something about a famous alpinist hanging on a sport route. A young kid came by and said that he had done it as a warm up. The alpinist commented that the kid should climb in Patagonia. He would like it.

Since this was Alaska, did Keith change his name to Stevens by wedding our then senator, Uncle Ted?

bump- definitely worth the read. It sounds like you had some of the systems dialed, or at least knew enough to figure it out along the way. I admire your concern for your partner, and am happy you have your toes. A success in the style of Shackelton.

When you thought you could continue after taking the Percodan, do you think it was eternal optimism of the alpinist, or the meds doing the talking?

Although I am an eternal optimist... it was definitely the drugs.

I believe that might be it-or knott.
I just need to go back and read it.

Cheers,
