There once was a New York based clothing company called Khadejha. I saw them a couple of times at Outdoor Retailer and then... Poof! Anyone know what happened? Were they another example of good idea, good backstory but bad execution?

stylish and overpriced garments? Climbers are the wrong market. Seriously, why pay $40 for a tshirt that'll get shredded on one wide section or shoulder scum?

Maybe they got threatened with Death?

After all, Khadija was Mohammed's first wife and I doubt she dressed like that..

I'd pay $40 for that shirt, if i could take it off that model with my teeth.

$100 for the shorts.

Caughtinside... I think you nailed it. The climbing market is a small population of people who would rather spend money on gas and cams than a nice shirt/shorts/etc.

For every climber willing to drop money on a shirt there are 1,000 teen girls ready to buy two.

But, from a design/fashion standpoint this brand had a nice line.

I think it was Ivan Greene's brainchild. While I am from the east (upstate ny) I think that MR E pretty much hit the nail on the head. Hence why I am moving! The company itself I think might have gotten bought out. I personally wouldn't spend a dime on that crap.

Khadejha was the name of Mohammed's favorite wife. Probably not a good logo after Sept. 11.

So true! Come up with some bland, overpriced garments and you have a chance with climbers.

Speaking of, has ANYONE here EVER bought a Nau product?
Kind of a Patagonia wannabe, striving to be "fair trade free range" clothing. Costs more.

Me either.

Hookers and blow killed it.

Really the brand was doing well but IG failed to carry the momentum they generated. They just broke into Japan, when they folded. (Japan is one of the only countries to blow stupid money On Climbing apparel) I can see why they failed after my brief stab at active clothing retail. Ever heard of granitlife? There are only so many climbers with cash and everyone in the industry wants everything for free.

IG is now a coffee purveyor in NYC. Brand is PUDGE KNUCKLES

Interesting to know he went into the coffee thing. I had wondered, and seen him out in the Gunks but didn't know him enough to ask.

So then Khadeja was part of Ivan's learning process as an entrepreneur. Hope he can do well with this venture(which I see carries over with a clothing merchandising line). Most businesses do "fail" - but failure is in the eyes of the beholder. They may not be financially viable, but what one learns from doing even the initial steps in beginning a business are valuable. I just wish I could get through that transitional phase of non-finacially viable ops to one that makes money myself! (Latest is a new line of beaded jewelry which I am in pre-launch mode, at;

Speaking of which...IHatePlastic - I know you put some big effort into that social site - what is going on there? Pinterest took a few years before exploding, so just because it wasn't a runaway success doesn't mean all that much...
