Sheesh! Another sign of the apocalypse is climbers waxing poetically about sheeshy food! Didja wash it down with Olde English like a real climber? Gotta run, the wife needs some things from Bristol Farms and Whole Foods; guess I'll pick up a sixer of "Fin du Monde" while I'm there.

Not only good food, but the nicest staff and service to boot.
We showed up late one night after a long epic day, tires screeching to a haute in the parking lot. No beer, no food, if the place is closed we're doomed.
We bolted through the door just as the open sign was turned off. The register was closed and the food court had taken it's last order and was preparing to shut down, but did they turn us away... Hell no.
We were given...yes! "given" the leftovers from the pizza by the slice counter, sans charge. More than enough for two hunger stricken climbers back from a long day on a long route having gone a long time without nourishment.
The register was already closed out, so no sales could be made, that much was clear. Seeing what must have been an obvious look of shock and disappointment on our faces, the nice lady at the counter asked, "you guys wanted beer too, right?".
YES!!!
The register is closed, but I can sell you any beer in the cooler for $10 bucks a six pack, just keep it quiet.
A fair price to pay if I do say so myself.
Karma must have been on our side that night.
Long live the (Whoa Nelly Deli) Mobile!

Relax Burn... I think the place blows.... nothing wrong with that, as that's my opinion. That's what we do here, hand out opinions.
I say nice things when I think something is nice. Whaddya, on happy pills or something? Go ahead, say something bad.... it just might make your day better.
Burn edit: I DO like the grass they have out front. Very nice!

I do greatly enjoy a meal there. TPR is a great resource too, but the food at the Whoa Nellie Deli is better. Pricey yes but the portions are large and the service is really fast. And let's not forget the large, clean bathrooms with HOT WATER!

I agree it's good food near a gas pump, but a lot of places in LA and Oakland are even better. That station should have never been allowed IMO. It is a small example of urban sprawl, any town USA, somehow escaped from the compact town of Lee Vining. Fish tacos aside, I have no idea how they got approval for that station - it was a zoning failure IMO.

I agree, David. You and I are both builders and developers and can't believe the discontinuity of the planning there. Amazing oldschool situation there for sure. Meanwhile it's there and I will have to ck out the food (lol).

I don't want to run the place down, not that it would matter, but the food is just OK IMO in an extremely sanitized environment that has little apparent connection to the local Lee Vining community. To me that place could be anywhere, a little touch of Fresno or Manteca on the east side. I've thought that since first seeing the sheepish MOBILE sign emerge, dry stack rock clad, over the ridge as you drive south on 395. I don't even think the rocks they made the sign with are local...
