I climb with Mike semi regularly (Stoney) and always have a wonderful time. Mike is kind, friendly and unassuming. During conversations he listens with sincerity. His comments are intensely thoughtful and thought provoking. By watching him climb, I learn. He teaches without speaking. The man drips style. Cheers to Mike, hope to see somma y'all this Aug at "Camp Waugh!"

Tell Mike I am at Phil's shop, working...
knew he wouldn't be in love with the appreciation, just humble Mikey
but the truth is, he is a great guy.

Who else lets Rich Lake sleep in his trailer in front of his house for months because he was, as Largo puts it, residentially challenged?

anyone with Waugh Photos, or sandbag stories, please post...

Mike, miss you dude.

The first time I did the Vampire was with Mr. Waugh and Mr. Badurka....it was cruise action.

One time many years later we were up at June Lake for a Ice climbing demo (Boreal). We climbed all day and then I was driving home (to Mammoth) later and I see Mike hiking down 395 near Deadman's. I pull over, "Mike," I ask "how about a ride?" He is all " No, I want to walk."

"OK dude."

The next day he is up bright and early for the demo.

What about those "Popeye" arms?

Waugh wants to know why all the girls aren't chiming in to sing his praises.

Back when trash talk ruled, "horizontical" sock lines were vogue and chalk bags were larger than the shorts they covered. :D

Mike and Paul Anderson were bouldering at purple stones for the camera.
Paul chalked up while hanging off the lip of an overhang by one hand...
Mike replied by climbing to the same point, cranking halfway through the move, then holding the 90 degree bent one arm, while he casually chalked up with the other, and then he finished the move....

Stony Point... about 1979.

Mike's hanging out, just him, his pectorals, 'n this cute little dish.

He asks her, (like she cares):
"So what do you want to see me do next: the double dyno?
Or how about maybe I do the one-arm mantel...
Which arm should I use; right or left ???"

He's not dead, can't we dawg him a little better than that ?
SOFT SPOKEN ?
I've always thought that he was a highly talented Sch!t Talker
and rabble rouser. I always failed in my attempts to keep up.
Seems like he really enjoys getting under some folks skin (Epps ?).
I figured that he honed his skills at work, in the fire fraternity.
Powell gives off the same effluence.

Or how about the footwear SLAP.
BITD, he'd be prancing about on things you could barely stick with your EB's.
In his signature pair of white deck shoes: flimsy at best, like Vans or Keds.

NOW we're talking about the real Mikey. I'm so glad we're over the sanguine, rainbows and unicorns sh#t. Quite the vicious little bitch when he wants to be. Definitely all that fire house training. As a sh#t talker, I'd put him in a league with Walling and Clune. That's world class.

Bolton, Waugh says you are going down this summer. "The gloves are off" . I took him to a Hairy Potter movie. I got to ask... which one is Waugh? Don't give him any clothes or he won't do our laundry.

After over 25 years of climbing and bouldering with Waugh, I've only heard him use a few ratings: 5.9 (easy), 10c (also easy), 11b (hard), and "can't do it." By his standards, he's never done a 5.12. Anyone heard any different?
