I am a musician in NYC. I play on Broadway and several area symphonies, and I have a doctoral degree in french horn. So while I am not "in a band" I get to play with a lot of really great musicians. As a freelancer I have gotten to play with Dave Brubeck and Ray Charles, and I am on several CDs. I also teach music and have some terrific students.
I started playing trombone in the fifth grade and still play now and then. Eventually, I started singing some, too. My junior year in High School, I was lucky to be a founding member of a ska band based in Fresno called "Let's Go Bowling" that is still (occasionally) gigging some 25 years later. The name of that band ended up in many summit registers in the western states...
I was also lucky to play in "Funk Missile" a super fun shake-your-butt bar band in JHole, WY for seven or eight years starting around '96. Let's see, I also played in "Mad Cow," (I'll buy you a pint if you heard that band) and a half a dozen other projects that were fun.
Music, jamming with friends, mountains, climbing, skiing...it's kind of a blur now, but that's what shaped me.
Great thread Iron Mtn. Played bass for years....Got tired of being a deckhand, took mushrooms for the first time at 47, formed a band that night, picked up guitar, started singing and songwriting. Formed the Mushrooms http://soundcloud.com/the-mushrooms and we've been playing and gigging ever since. Up to about 40 originals. So much fun to have fun and not take it seriously. Love Dr. Sprock's acoustic play list. I do a pretty fair Neil Young and love "out on the weekend". I'll be playing in the campground in TM next weekend if your around. I heard Bachar play in JT with the Cactus Pricks at a party there years ago.......maybe can make Lynn's toast at c4 and play a tune........Rock On!
I've been laid up with pneumonia for the holidays (boy does that suck). But I finally figured out how to upload a video on youtube. Here's a real funky one of me and my friend Carol at The Talking Stick coffee shop in Venice. Lots of problems, but the harmony comes across, which is my favorite thing.
Play bass for an R&B/blues/jazz(ish) band, with an awesome female vocalist.
We've got lord knows how many tunes down, and figuring out what to play when on stage is the hardest part of the band.

It's pretty fun stuff because it's filled with great bass lines, and appeals to many generations. Plus we've only rehearsed 4 or 5 times in the 3 years or so I've been playing with the band, so it stays fun when it's 3 nights/week in the summer.
Also play a few gigs with a 3 piece jazz wank band.
I play drums. Been in a few different bands. Recently been jamming with some guys who play a lot of classic rock (zeppelin, doors, who, petty...etc) and some more modern rock (chili peppers, death cab, wolf mother... To name a few). I'm always looking to jam so if you are in the San Jose area hit me up
Here is a new one I wrote recently with some friends, Andrew Shurr and Patrick Odonnell, both climbers and Eastside locals. I recorded this tonight solo. Waiting for some good bass lines from Andrew. http://soundcloud.com/jasonchinchen/yonder-mountain-mix-2
Played Bass and Banjo for over a decade with this now defunct originals band. Did the weekend warrior bar gig scene and self produced a CD.
Still get together with the guitar player for acoustic jamming.
