I am stunned. Just heard this news after a late night of fun and music and almost broke down.

I am so, so sorry for all of his close friends, family and the climbing community. This is a real shocker.

I think I'll go sit on top of a peak today and contemplate what this man contributed to our sport and community.
(And I'm not a big summit-type person.)

My heart goes out to his son and close friends.

The weird thing is...we were all just posting on his 4th of You Lie thread...and I was thinking what an amazing, compassionate person John Bachar was...and...

Nevermind...it's just words.

Ugh, what can you possibly say....

I feel for Tyrus, this isn't fair to him. Hopefully he can take comfort in the fact that a community is behind him.

RIP John, you were an inspiration.

When I first read the thread about the "unknown climber" I thought of John, hoping it wasn't him. Now it looks as though it was.

John was an early hero for me and always had a good word when I would see him at the crags or a trade show.

A sad day indeed...
