So does anyone know of another feasible approach to the Citadel besides South Lake-Bishop pass? The permit situation seems to be preventing approach that way, and I ain't no Dave Nettle....

Thanks much

North Lake to JMT to Muir Pass. There are a few cross country routes along that trail to Darwin Canyon to Evolution Valley.

Lake Edison from the west. (Long)

Lamarck Col to Darwin Canyon to Evolution Valley to Muir Pass.

Secor's book is a good reference for access to that area.

South Lake via Bishop Pass is the best.

Others have better ideas?

Have fun.

N. Fork Big Pine Creek trail to Sam Mack trail to Agassiz Col to Dusy Basin.

But if you're luggin' a bunch of gear, you really should find a way to go through Bishop Pass.

Gene -you sadist! Like your idea but North Lake to the Citadel with ropes rack and harnesses would be painful.
