Hey,
My pack with 11 C4 camalots, 6 small metolius cams, 3 pairs of shoes (all Women's size 6-7), and my rope was stolen from my car last night in North Berkeley. If you see apparently/probably stolen gear in that area, it would be great if you let me know. The cams and their biners were recently marked with shiny, light green nail polish.
Thanks,
Maria

Check Wilderness Exchange and Craigslist.
My bf got his stuff back from W.E. years ago.

That is a drag. I got a bunch of ropes stolen from my car a few years ago in North Berkeley. So don't leave your stuff in your car around here. Now I always bring everything inside.

That sucks. Good luck. A couple of months ago a friend of min had her car stolen with a pack of gear inside. The stuff showed up on Craigslist but the people who had it were flakey and the cops were of little help. I'd suggest baseball bat justice for the bastards.

Here's a link to a stolen gear/Craiglist story where much of the gear was recovered. I think it helped to have (a) some unique gear and (b) luck, in that a former-climber cop overheard the story the second time Jake went to the police.

Despite how you may or may not feel about REI, it might be worth letting the Berkeley location know incase someone tries to use their return policy to make some $$$.

I was in Berkley for the David Bryne concert at the greek friday nite. Its always scary to park in them streets and we saw some suspiscious guys walking along looking in cars. I carry a black cloth with me and cover my stuff with it when we park. Its amazing how well it hides things in the dark........Good Luck finding your stuff and Yes tell REI bout it. Berkley is usually a peaceful place as it was that nite for us............

Most definitely. I think a few hours of my company is a pretty fair trade for $2000 worth of climbing gear.

Like everyone else I'm sorry to hear about the theft.
Two suggestions that come to mind: Do you have any pictures of your gear (e.g. at a hanging belay)?; can you describe any remarkable features of your gear? Also, in case you don't already know, a quick way to search *all* craigslist listings -- something Craigslist discourages -- is to google "[search terms] site:craigslist.org" (e.g. "climbing gear cams site:craigslist.org").

i had a whole shopful of gear stolen.
Suggest along with online vendors, and a watchful eye in camp 4,
you consider a visit to your city and county gang and or graffitti units.
"Art of Climbing" was ripped off by taggers seeking access to freeway overpasses.
