hey there, say... well, the grammma, mom, and sis, are always last to know, i reckon.. :)

well, my daughter and grandkids (this i DID know) were off to visit the folks and then going onward to see mark's place in yosemite and the park, as well--naturally!

and i was hoping for some phone calls, as i called mark and my daughter too... but vacation time is short so i have not heard back... BUT... during father's day, here at the grandkids', i got to see the NEATEST PICTURES! THAT THEY SENT TO THE COMPUTER, BY CELL PHONE...

wonderful ol' chappy was taking my grandson up climbing! ...
wow---nothing like getting coached by CHAPPY!

mark's been taking them around yosemite and giving a neat ol' "guided tour" and my ol' grandson nicky has had his first taste of real rock-climbing...

i will post some pics after asking for permission, soon as i get hold of someone...

i think even sara wanted to try to tackle a few small trails... saw a few pics of that too...

well, nick is a very happy young man, to say the least!!!!

wow, way to go, chappy! ... thanks for sharing time and love with my bit of family... sure do look forward for more of the happy trip-report...

god bless to all..

though chappy should still be around...

awwwwwwww, i am so very happy for my grandson to have this time with the ol'family-rock-climber, that ol' yosemite-lover-of-rock, chappy himself!

I had the pleasure of running into Mark and Nick at Ranger Rock on Saturday. It was a special treat to see Mark in his element as I guided two teen aged boys for Y.M.S..
Nick climbed like a pro on the first pitch of C.S. Concerto, to my amazement he then waltzed up the first pitch of After 7 without a hitch. His only comment after climbing, "it was harder than I thought it would be!"
Nice to meet you Nick, and great to see my good friend Mark back on the stone
climbing with his extended family; way to go Chapman clan!

All the best,
Jo Whitford

hey there, say, jobee... wow thanks for the post here... i am still stuck in limbo, waiting for more pics...

i did get one... one of sara, up high, from a long trail climb...

say, all my boys were very agile, but one... and my brothers all were mainly very agile, too....

nick seems to take after them---he is a very good hockey player, too!...

wow, thanks for sharing with me about mark, too! i can just picture them all on this great "romp through valley" spying out rocks....

god bless... well, i AM working on this... hopefully you all won't have to wait too long....

I've been wondering what he's up to, lately.
Glad he's havin' fun.

hey there, say all.... i finally got in touch with mark... man, is he busy! ... but doing well...

so, the mini trip report (most likely without pics, as my daughter does not now if she wants to let me post any) :(

well:

mark too her, her husband and the teen boy, and two 7? year-olds for some neat little tours...

he took the to glacier point, natuarally...

and then, they hiked up a sentinal dome trail...

he also took them to el cap beach... and they had a barbecue...

and of course, thanks to jobee--we got the climbing details, for young nicky...
*sure hope i get to post--they were GREAT PICS! that i saw on the step-mom's computer...

aw, shucks, no one send me anything neat... :(

but i am so happy and joyed-up at see my grandson in the valley!... they have got some pics of mark, too! good ol' chappy, he had a great time, he said...

*also, his little jack russels does like chasing coyotes...

well, shucks, folks... this is it, for now i reckon...

if any more neat stuff comes my way, i will share what i can...

god bless, guys.. and thanks for being so patient for nothing... :( ... oops... ;)

ahhhhhhhhhh, i can feel that yosemite ambience, now... :)

edit: oh, he also took them to the base of el cap...

hey there say, ... also, forgot...

my daughter did say that on the day that mark was busy, she and her husband and the kids, did the hike up to the upper yosemite falls... or something like that????

that was when they saw the BEAR, when they were coming down trail... it was about 20 feet aways she said...

oh my----they said it just looked at them, but didn't seem to decide what to do... she said they JUST RAN... and DOWN TRAIL...
course, she said most likely they should not have started running, but she didn't think...

they just wanted to get away before it decided it was bored with whatever it was doing, and took after them....

wow, could have turned out worse, but all was well...
thanks to the good lord 'round about...

I have many fond memories of Mark Chapman. I met him when he was about 17 years old and I was pretty established in Camp 4. I took him under my wing just as TM had done to me. He always had this incredible build but , humble soul that he is, he would in that twangy voice say, "I'm not nearly as strong as I look."

Mark picked up crack climbing quickly, which is a damn good thing because of what happened one day at Arch Rock. We had done a few climbs and for some reason I decided to free solo Midterm. I was just at that awkward spot where you transition into the chimney when I noticed that Mark had decided to follow me and was about 30 ft. directly below me. God, I thought, now I have two lives to think about. Mark didn't seem to think there was anything odd about the situation.

MC was one of the big reasons I have so many fond memories of that snapshot of time in the Valley- the early 70's.

hey there say, donini... wow... say, thanks for this great bit of info..

isn't that odd... say, if i HAD wanted to climb, i would have picked crack-climbing, too... the crack in the rock is just so very interesting, and it near reminds me of a creek-bed through the land (or the rock, in this case)... kind of neat trail, leading you to and through the wonders of the climb...

wow...

say, sadly, i called my grandson and he does not want to share his pics... not sure if he is shy, or cautious of the internet, or what...

so--that's it folks, i tried....

extra note:
actually, i never posted many pics, either, until i realized i had to share someone, for my novels and books, so folks would see that i was a real person and a credible writer... and then later, too, i realized that the newspaper would share the same book publicity photos, if needed, too...

well, say, perhaps SOMEONE could share some pictures of the climb that jo-bee mentioned....

at least this way, we could all see the route that mark had my grandson climb... (man, the pictures looked so neat, at least what i remember of seeing them at his step-moms... looked like great fun, too)

sorry folks i reckon i had jumped in too fast, to share all this... he had his pics on a facebook site that we saw, so i thought perhaps he would like to share them here, too...

well, please forgive me for any "teasing" of a neat trip photo-shoot... :(
