Hmmmm, I am wondering how my handwriting got onto the topo that Tommy linked above? That's funny! I wonder if I sent it to Chris Mac? Maybe Warren gave me the topo, I can't remember.

Regarding Grant Gardner (from the previous generation's angle). I first met Grant after his father (a fireman I believe) called me many years ago. Grant wanted to take an ice climbing class I was teaching for a local club, but he was only 14. His dad told me Grant is a novice ice climber, but he pays attention, he is older than his age and he will not cause you any problems. Would you please take him with you?

So I did. He was the most inquisitive person in that class, wanted to know exactly what the basics were and was very thorough about it all. After the first day class ended, we messed around a bit, ice bouldering just the two of us, for about a hour.

The next morning before the class started, he got up early and soloed 2 pitch WI4+!

When I found out I wasn't sure what to do. He didn't cause any problems, but man, did he cause problems...

Made me wonder right there what I was witnessing and what was coming next.

Pete,

You gave me a scan of the topo years ago. I passed it on to Chris a couple years later. So that is why your writing is on it.

That route has been mentioned here and there, and it sounds like the sickest route on El Cap.

Has it even seen any other attempts?

I haven't posted in quite awhile and did not plan to but I had to bump this sh#t.

Really like to read some of Burts' stories and of course the details from Mr. McCrays' ball shrivlin (mine anyway) adventure.
