From Big Sur to about Pismo is some of best the Central coast has to offer. It's been a while, but I imagine that part of the coast is still not too developed. Cayucos was a nice sleepy beach town, and the road north was very scenic. It was a little trippy, cruising that road back in the seventies, stoned, and seeing zebras grazing on the grassy hillsides, only to find out later it was the Hearst Mansion. I can even remember grabbing abalone off some rocks at a very low tide, but I'll be damned if I can remember exactly where...

Go to dinner anywhere on the downtown square at dusk. It's super cute.

Rent Sideways too for inspiration.

A side trip to Santa Barbara and Pismo Beach is probably worth your drive. Extra super for going all the way to Hearst Castle.

Edit...So I see I'm too late. I'm glad it was nice, and hope you are doing well otherwise. :-)

If you are tethered to Paso, and you golf, there are some good options,
if you fish, catch halibut in Morro Bay on a trout rod.
Pinnacles, many great wineries,
