It's a shame that some people feel the need to diminish the accomplishments of others to build themselves up.

Most of those who frequent this board openly celebrate the accomplishments of others - no matter how big or how small. So what if others have climbed Everest. There are far fewer people in this who have climbed to the top of Everest than have climbed the face of El Capitan, yet we continue celebrate with all who accomplish that... and rightfully so.

If his accomplishment doesn't do anything for you, so what. I'm pretty sure he didn't do it for you.

If you feel the need to do an "impressive" ascent maybe you can impress yourself by soloing a new route up The Big Hill with no O's and no support of any kind - oh wait....that's nothing new....Messner did that almost 30 years ago.

I'll say this much...I'm impressed! I salute the man for making the good decision to turn back so close to the top on his first attempt. I salute him for not giving up after the second attempt ended with HAPE. I salute him for showing us all that you aren't too old, too tired, or too weak until you say you are.

Congrats Bill on your ascent of the highest mountain on Earth. You didn't fall there. You earned it!
