My folks visited Yosemite (from PA) for the first time last weekend. I wanted to do EVERYTHING with them, but had to do what was reasonable and suited the schedule.

They aren't much on hiking, as proved the one that we took, so we opted for less hikey activities.

Some highlights that, for the most part, I recommend...

Railtown in Jamestown. $2 for a person that loves trains more than breathing air to take you through the roundhouse. Really cool for gear heads.

Hetch Hetchy. Why haven't I been climbing here regularly for years? Our little cabin at the Evergreen lodge was better than I could have hoped for.

We stopped at every turn out and overlook on the way in.

Mom's Day brunch at the Awahnee. Food isn't the best, certainly not for the money, but it's a tradition that I'm glad I had the chance to share w/ my mom.

Vernal Falls hike followed by time with friends.

Attempt at moonbow and full moon look from Tunnel View dashed by later than expected moonrise and sleepy folks.

Stayed in a Curry cabin...woke up under Staircase Falls. First time paying for shelter ever in the Valley. Novelty factor and key for the folks, but spendy for the digs.

Went to an NPS sponsored walk-and-talk by Julia Parker, 80 yr. old native virtuosa basketmaker. Five stars. Everyone should do this! Really. Take a day off and go when she's on the schedule!

Road the Green Dragon. Lots of misinformation, but two hours of sharing unblocked views w/ my folks whose shin splits from the previous day's hikes were nixing much walking was pretty cool. Chongo, Lynn Hill, and hard drinkin' Warren Harding were discussed along with Muir and Galen Clark.

Dinner at the Bug on the way out...my favorite ending to almost any trip to the Valley.

Being in the Valley without pulling on anything was tough at times, but this was still one of my best and most memorable trips ever.

Cool Tr Melissa. Showing my parents (from Texas) the valley was one of my favorite trips.
