Lots of songs mention or allude to climbing. What are some of your favorites?
Fearless from Pink Floyd's Meddle.
You say the hill's too steep to climb
Climb it.
You say you'd like to see me try
Climbing.
You pick the place and I'll choose the time
And I'll climb
That hill in my own way.
Just wait a while for the right day.
And as I rise above the tree lines and the clouds
I look down, hearing the sound of the things you've said today.
Fearlessly the idiot faced the crowd
Smiling.
Merciless the magistrate turns 'round
Frowning.
And who's the fool who wears the crown?
And go down,
in your own way
And every day is the right day
And as you rise above the fear-lines in his brow
You look down, hearing the sound of the faces in the crowd.

Love that song, especially that part. Hard to find a better song about climbing.

We'll be leaving this town in the morning
Tommorrow we'll be able to see
I've had me enough of this city
And she's had enough out of me
Say if I climbed to the mountains
Would you still follow me there
Steal me away in an echo
The mountains will always be there
I'm turning my sights on the country
Sold everything that I own
I'm heading away from the bright lights
Looking for where the wind blows
Say if I climbed to the mountains
Would you still follow me there
Steal me away in an echo
The mountains will always be there
The Ballad of the Beacon

some climb...to get to terrapin!
Cool topic SG.
This one always held climbing connotations for me,
"Rift" by Phish
Last night, in the moments my thoughts were adrift
And coasting a terrace, approaching a rift
Through which I could spy several glimpses beneath
Of the darkness the light from above could not reach
I spied wings of reason, herself taking flight
And upon yonder precipice saw her alight
And glared back at me one last look of dismay
As if she were the last one she thought I'd betray
So much better I said to myself
And drawing quite close to the top of the shelf
I struggled with destiny upon the ledge
And gasped when defeated he slipped off the edge
And silence contagious in moments like these
Consumed me and strengthened my will to appease
The passion that sparked me one terrible night
And shocked and persuaded my soul to ignite
So much better I said to myself
And drawing quite close to the top of the shelf
I struggled with destiny upon the ledge
And gasped when defeated he slipped off the edge
And silence contagious in moments like these
Consume me and strengthen my will to appease
The passion that sparked me one terrible night
(And shocked and persuaded my soul to ignite)

Not one of my favorites. A little to literal for my tastes, but it fits.
"The Climb" by No Doubt
Step by step
I've come closer to reaching the top
Every step must be placed so that I don't fall off
Looking down to see about how much higher I am
Another cool wind comes through and brushes my skin
The harder I push the tension does grow
I gather my thoughts the further and further I go
With some luck I just might keep on climbing
So better to climb than to face a fall
So high the climb
Can't turn back now
Must keep on climbing up to the clouds
So high the climb Can't turn back now
Must keep on climbing up to the clouds
Pulling myself up by a rope
I better my view
The only thing in sight is what I must do
As I turned I could see myself falling
Which in return save me strength for the climb
So high the climb
Can't turn back now
Must keep on climbing up to the clouds
So high the climb
Can't turn back now
Must keep on climbing up to the clouds
Although many failed I must now prevail with no question
Have no time to stop
Onward to the top of the mountain
And I can't turn back now
Its so very high but I can't turn back now
If I keep it up, I'm gonna make it
I'm so very close can't you see
So high the climb
Can't turn back now
Must keep on climbing up to the clouds
So high the climb
Can't turn back now
Must keep on climbing up to the clouds
I'm getting closer

I'll sing ya the story
of Betsy from pike
She climbed the Big mountain
with her lover Ike
With a rope made of nylon
and a handful of slings
6 rusty pitons
and a can of sardines
Say goodbye to the valley
the valley so fair
they climbed the big mountain
because it is there
Ike surveyed the mountain
and quickly picked out
the most terrifying
precipitous route
they got up three pitches
and the holds went to seed
Ike said "Betsy m'darlin
would you like to lead"..
(chorus)
Well she led like an angel
up onto the face
while Ike stood admirin
her form and her grace...
She reached for a handhold
but the handhold let go
and she raced with the handhold
to the valley below
(chorus)
well she came to a halt
with the greatest of ease
all tangled up
in a clump of small trees
Ike called out to Betsy
so young and so fair
"The language yer usin'
is curlin my hair"
(chorus)
that night they bivouaced
high on a ledge
their backs to the wall
and their feets to the edge
Ike said "Betsy for a night with you
long I have pined
But this wasn't really
what I had in mind"...
(chorus)
next morning the rock
looked so blank and
so bare.
Ike wondered what they
were doin' up there
"let's go up the back way
it's only class 2"
says Betsy "you'll go by yourself if ya do"...
(chorus)
so they went up a chimney
with breath-taking pace
and when it ran out they
moved onto the face
with laybacks
and jamcracks
and a mantle besides
till they stood on the summit
and cursed at the guide
(chorus)
now there is no moral
to this little song
it's one doubtful value
is that it's too long....
for this song was written
just to kill time
on a five hour drive
to a two hour climb
author unknown, but one of my campfire faves

Pink Floyd, High Hopes...
...
At a higher altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world
Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There's a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we've been so many times

I posted this before on the taco but it fits in well with the thread. This song was hand copied from table to table in camp 4, and was written by a brit.
MORE WATER - Rob Wood
sung to "The Streets of Laredo" Sept 1970
As we were a-boozing in camp 4 one evening,
As we were a-boozing in camp 4 one day,
We heard to our horror, the croaks of a climber,
More water, more water, were the words he did say.
When the rangers they heard of a potential disaster,
They went to their files and they pulled out a card.
And to our amazement the name of the climber
Was our old mate Brian, t'was Brian so hard.
After three days of climbing , they'ed run short of water,
For this is all that they thought they would need,
Up the Nose they had started with only three gallons,
To climb it, said Brian, I'll climb it with speed.
A Rescue, A Rescue, were the words of the Rangers,
The climbers they lined up to ask what the fee,
Seven dollars an hour if you are well known,
If not , we must ask you to do it for free.
But the law said only ten men on the rescue,
And sweet Bev, she said, I want to go too,
Seven dollars an hour for maid's liberation,
For Brian the chance of a bloody good screw.
The chopper it started at seven in the morning,
Jim Bridwell was there to tell what to do,
For ten dollars an hour I'll rappel down the wall,
Seven dollars an hour for the rest of my crew.
Old Bridwell on a cable to Camp 6 was lowered,
To Brian and Kelly some water to bring,
While down in the Valley many tourists did gather,
And we ran to the phone, Ken Wilson to ring.
Such a scandal, such a scandal, will be the next headlines,
Just what I needed to make some good news,
First El Cap British rescue, he duely reported,
News that will surely bring grins from Creag Dubhs.
You may have your hammock and harness to help you,
You may have your license in Boulder to guide,
But if you're on El Cap without any water,
Just think yourself lucky that you haven't died.

Fire Coming Out of a Monkey's Head - Gorillaz
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sd_ZyLqTd-Q
I listen to this one all the time. It's got half a thousand parallels to climbing - even the tool!
Once upon a time at the foot of a great mountain, there was a town where the people known as Happyfolk lived, their very existence a mystery to the rest of the world, obscured as it was by great clouds. Here they played out their peaceful lives, innocent of the litany of excess and violence that was growing in the world below. To live in harmony with the spirit of the mountain called Monkey was enough. Then one day Strangefolk arrived in the town. They came in camouflage, hidden behind dark glasses, but no one noticed them: they only saw shadows. You see, without the Truth of the Eyes, the Happyfolk were blind.
Falling out of aeroplanes and hiding out in holes
Waiting for the sunset to come, people growing old
Jump back from behind them and shoot them in the head
Now everybody dancing the dance of the dead,
the dance of the dead,
the dance of the dead
In time, Strangefolk found their way into the higher reaches of the mountain, and it was there that they found the caves of unimaginable Sincerity and Beauty. By chance, they stumbled upon the Place Where All Good Souls Come to Rest. The Strangefolk, they coveted the jewels in these caves above all things, and soon they began to mine the mountain, its rich seam fueling the chaos of their own world. Meanwhile, down in the town, the Happyfolk slept restlessly, their dreams invaded by shadowy figures digging away at their souls. Every day, people would wake and stare at the mountain. Why was it bringing darkness into their lives? And as the Strangefolk mined deeper and deeper into the mountain, holes began to appear, bringing with them a cold and bitter wind that chilled the very soul of the Monkey. For the first time, the Happyfolk felt fearful for they knew that soon the Monkey would soon stir from its deep sleep. And then came a sound. Distant first, it grew into castrophany so immense it could be heard far away in space. There were no screams. There was no time. The mountain called Monkey had spoken. There was only fire. And then, nothing.
O little town in U.S.A, your time has come to see
There's nothing you believe you want
But where were you when it all came down on me?
Did you call me now?

One of my faves, Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel. Plenty of climbs have made my heart go boom boom boom....
Climbing up on solsbury hill
I could see the city light
Wind was blowing, time stood still
Eagle flew out of the night
He was something to observe
Came in close, I heard a voice
Standing stretching every nerve
I had to listen had no choice
I did not believe the information
Just had to trust imagination
My heart was going boom boom, boom
Son, he said, grab your things, Ive come to take you home.
To keeping silence I resigned
My friends would think I was a nut
Turning water into wine
Open doors would soon be shut
So I went from day to day
Tho my life was in a rut
till I thought of what Id say
Which connection I should cut
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart was going boom boom boom
Hey, he said, grab your things, Ive come to take you home.
Yeah back home
When illusion spin her net
Im never where I want to be
And liberty she pirouette
When I think that I am free
Watched by empty silhouettes
Who close their eyes, but still can see
No one taught them etiquette
I will show another me
Today I dont need a replacement
Ill tell them what the smile on my face meant
My heart was going boom boom boom
Hey, I said, you can keep my things, theyve come to take me home.

Kashmir - Led Zeppelin. It goes through my head when I'm climbing, and I listen to it whenever I'm driving six hours for a weekend warrior climbing trip. I've definitely convinced myself the song is about climbing.
Oh let the sun beat down upon my face, stars to fill my dream
I am a traveler of both time and space, to be where I have been
To sit with elders of the gentle race, this world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait and all will be revealed
Oh, father of the four winds, fill my sails, across the sea of years
With no provision but an open face, along the straits of fear
Ohh. Oh, oh.
Oh, I been flying... mama, there ain't no denyin'
I've been flying, ain't no denyin', no denyin'
All I see turns to brown, as the sun burns the ground
And my eyes fill with sand, as I scan this wasted land
Trying to find, trying to find where I've been.
Oh pilot of the storm who leaves no trace, like thoughts inside a dream
Heed the path that led me to that place, yellow desert stream
My Shangri-La beneath the summer moon, I will return again
Sure as the dust that floats high in June, when movin' through
Kashmir.
Talk and song from tongues of lilting grace, whose sounds caress my ear
But not a word I heard could I relate, the story was quite clear
When I'm on, when I'm on my way, yeah
When I see, when I see the way, you stay-yeah
Ooh, yeah-yeah, ooh, yeah-yeah, when I'm down...
Ooh, yeah-yeah, ooh, yeah-yeah, well I'm down, so down
Ooh, my baby, oooh, my baby, let me take you there
Let me take you there. Let me take you there

a guide's tune...
UP HIGH (to the tune of “Raw Hide”)
CLIMBIN’, CLIMBIN’, CLIMBIN’, CLIMBIN’, CLIMBIN’, CLIMBIN’,
UP HIGH.
ROLLIN’, ROLLIN’, ROLLIN’,
THOUGH THE STREAMS ARE SWOLLEN,
KEEP THOSE CLIENTS GOIN’, UP HIGH.
RAIN AND WIND AND WEATHER,
HELL BENT FOREVER,
WISHIN’ MY GAL WAS BY MY SIDE.
ALL THE THINGS I’M MISSIN’,
GOOD VITTLES LOVE AND KISSIN’,
ARE WAITING AT THE END OF MY CLIMB.
MOVE ‘EM ON, HEAD ‘EM UP, HEAD ‘EM ON, MOVE ‘EM UP, MOVE ‘EM ON, HEAD ‘EM UP. UP HIGH.
CLIP ‘EM OUT, TIE ‘EM IN, TIE ‘EM OUT, CLIP ‘EM IN, CLIP ‘EM OUT, TIE ‘EM IN. UP HIGH.
KEEP MOVIN’, MOVIN’, MOVIN’,
KNOW THEY’RE DISAPPROVIN’,
KEEP THOSE CLIENTS MOVIN’, UP HIGH.
DON’T TRY TO UNDERSTAND THEM,
JUST SHORT ROPE AND COMMAND THEM,
SOON WE’LL BE STEPPIN’ HIGH AND WIDE.
MY HEART’S CALCULATIN’,
THAT FLAT GOUND WILL BE WAITIN’,
BE WAITIN’ AT THE END OF THE CLIMB.
MOVE ‘EM ON, HEAD ‘EM UP, HEAD ‘EM ON, MOVE ‘EM UP, MOVE ‘EM ON, HEAD ‘EM UP. UP HIGH.
CLIP ‘EM OUT, TIE ‘EM IN, TIE ‘EM OUT, CLIP ‘EM IN, CLIP ‘EM OUT, TIE ‘EM IN. UP HIGH.
MOVE ‘EM ON, HEAD ‘EM UP, HEAD ‘EM ON, MOVE ‘EM UP, MOVE ‘EM ON, HEAD ‘EM UP. UP HIGH.
CLIP ‘EM OUT, TIE ‘EM IN, TIE ‘EM OUT, CLIP ‘EM IN, CLIP ‘EM OUT, TIE ‘EM IN. UP HIGH.

The Yes album Close to the Edge had a very cool bit of climbing artwork inside and a lengthy climbing song in the title track.
I. The Solid Time Of Change
(Anderson/Howe)
A seasoned witch could call you from the depths of your disgrace,
And rearrange your liver to the solid mental grace,
And achieve it all with music that came quickly from afar,
Then taste the fruit of man recorded losing all against the hour.
And assessing points to nowhere, leading ev'ry single one.
A dewdrop can exalt us like the music of the sun,
And take away the plain in which we move,
And choose the course you're running.
Down at the edge, round by the corner,
Not right away, not right away.
Close to the edge, down by a river,
Not right away, not right away.
Crossed the line around the changes of the summer,
Reaching out to call the color of the sky.
Passed around a moment clothed in mornings faster than we see.
Getting over all the time I had to worry,
Leaving all the changes far from far behind.
We relieve the tension only to find out the master's name.
Down at the end, round by the corner.
Close to the edge, just by a river.
Seasons will pass you by.
I get up, I get down.
Now that it's all over and done,
Now that you find, now that you're whole.
II. Total Mass Retain
(Anderson/Squire)
My eyes convinced, eclipsed with the younger moon attained with love.
It changed as almost strained amidst clear manna from above.
I crucified my hate and held the word within my hand.
There's you, the time, the logic, or the reasons we don't understand.
Sad courage claimed the victims standing still for all to see,
As armoured movers took approached to overlook the sea.
There since the cord, the license, or the reasons we understood will be.
Down at the edge, close by a river.
Close to the edge, round by the corner.
Close to the end, down by the corner.
Down at the edge, round by the river.
Sudden problems shouldn't take away the startled memory.
All in all, the journey takes you all the way.
As apart from any reality that you've ever seen and known.
Guessing problems only to deceive the mention,
Passing paths that climb halfway into the void.
As we cross from side to side, we hear the total mass retain.
Down at the edge, round by the corner.
Close to the end, down by a river.
Seasons will pass you by.
I get up, I get down.
III. I Get Up, I Get Down
(Anderson/Howe)
In her white lace, you could clearly see the lady sadly looking.
Saying that she'd take the blame
For the crucifixion of her own domain. I get up,
I get down,
I get up,
I get down.
Two million people barely satisfy.
Two hundred women watch one woman cry, too late.
The eyes of honesty can achieve.
How many millions do we deceive each day?
I get up, I get down.
I get up, I get down.
In charge of who is there in charge of me.
Do I look on blindly and say I see the way?
The truth is written all along the page.
How old will I be before I come of age for you?
I get up, I get down.
I get up, I get down.
I get up, I get down.
IV. Seasons Of Man
(Anderson/Howe)
The time between the notes relates the color to the scenes.
A constant vogue of triumphs dislocate man, it seems.
And space between the focus shape ascend knowledge of love.
As song and chance develop time, lost social temp'rance rules above.
Ah, ah.
Then according to the man who showed his outstretched arm to space,
He turned around and pointed, revealing all the human race.
I shook my head and smiled a whisper, knowing all about the place.
On the hill we viewed the silence of the valley,
Called to witness cycles only of the past.
And we reach all this with movements in between the said remark.
Close to the edge, down by the river.
Down at the end, round by the corner.
Seasons will pass you by,
Now that it's all over and done,
Called to the seed, right to the sun.
Now that you find, now that you're whole.
Seasons will pass you by,
I get up, I get down.
I get up, I get down.
I get up, I get down.
I get up.

Not even sure what the F this means, but it is by Modest Mouse and I like singing it when I am getting gripped...
Although we often wondered
It was no thing of wonder
The sh#t that flew from our minds
While wearing stains of fresh fruit
And riding on shoes of horse glue
On this ridiculous climb
With great tunnel vision
We built ourselves a mission
To ride our motives design
Oh, what a vague description
Of what we have been missing
So why would anyone try?
Seems pretty appropriate to me at least!

Conquer Me by Blues Traveler....actually sort of a "looking for love" song, and kind of a weird sappy one - but still, if you're making a list, this ought to be on there -
Music: Bobby Sheehan
Lyrics: John Popper
Hail to you my mountain climber busy at your task
I know you're in a hurry but there's something I must ask
Do you ever get lonely climbing up so high
If you don't want to answer me I can understand why
If I told you a secret, would you want to know more
I've got a challenge I hope you won't ignore
Conquer me figure me out and set me free
I've got a hundred million things to show you as many more to see
But only if you conquer me
Sometimes I get this precious view and the grand scheme shows its face
When all is in harmony it can be such a lonely place
The melody is sad and sweet, and the dance I do is fun
Yes I love this precious view but I'm staring at the sun
For as pretty the picture, I share this view alone
Will anyone stoop to grasp this gauntlet I have thrown
Conquer me figure me out and set me free
I've got a hundred million things to show you as many more to see
But only if you conquer me
Hail to all you mountain climbers all you dreamers on the run
I'm your self appointed solicitor but now I speak to only one
Whoever she is now, and whoever she'll become
I'd like to ask her to hurry please and if she's walking could she run
It's not my impatience though perhaps just there I lied
It's just I'm feeling invincible and it has me terrified
Conquer me figure me out and set me free
Conquer me figure me out and set me free

I Shall Be Released: Bob Dylan
They say ev'rything can be replaced,
Yet ev'ry distance is not near.
So I remember ev'ry face
Of ev'ry man who put me here.
I see my light come shining
From the west unto the east.
Any day now, any day now,
I shall be released.
They say ev'ry man needs protection,
They say ev'ry man must fall.
Yet I swear I see my reflection
Some place so high above this wall.
I see my light come shining
From the west unto the east.
Any day now, any day now,
I shall be released.
Standing next to me in this lonely crowd,
Is a man who swears he's not to blame.
All day long I hear him shout so loud,
Crying out that he was framed.
I see my light come shining
From the west unto the east.
Any day now, any day now,
I shall be released.

Climbing sneaks into a couple of Police songs...
No Time This Time
No time for the complexities of conversation
No time smiles, no time for knowing
No time for the intricacies of explanation
No time for sharing, even less for showing
If I could
I'd slow the whole world down
I'd bring it to it's knees
I'd stop it spinning round
But as it is
I'm climbing up an endless wall
No time at all
No time this time
No time at all
No time this time
No time for a quick kiss at the railway station
No time for a suitcase, sandwich and a morning paper
Only time for time tables, calls and transportation
No time to think no time to dare
If I could
I'd slow the whole world down
I'd bring it to it's knees
I'd stop it spinning round
But as it is
I'm climbing up an endless wall
No time at all
No time this time
No time at all
No time this time
If I could
I'd slow the whole world down
I'd bring it to it's knees
I'd stop it spinning round
But as it is
I'm climbing up an endless wall
No time at all
No time this time
No time at all
No time this time
No time at all
No time this time
No time at all
No time this time
No time at all
No time at all...

From Lee Ann Womack
I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances
But they're worth taking
Lovin' might be a mistake
But it's worth making
Don't let some hell bent heart
Leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out
Reconsider
Give the heavens above
More than just a passing glance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
And my all time favorite mountain song...
He was born in the summer of his 27th year
Comin home to a place hed never been before
He left yesterday behind him, you might say he was born again
You might say he found a key for every door
When he first came to the mountains his life was far away
On the road and hangin by a song
But the strings already broken and he doesnt really care
It keeps changin fast and it dont last for long
But the colorado rocky mountain high
Ive seen it rainin fire in the sky
The shadow from the starlight is softer than a lullabye
Rocky mountain high (high colorado) rocky mountain high (high colorado)
He climbed cathedral mountains, he saw silver clouds below
He saw everything as far as you can see
And they say he got crazy once, and he tried to touch the sun
And he lost a friend but kept his memory
Now he walks in quiet solitude the forests and the streams
Seeking grace in every step he takes
His sight has turned inside himself to try and understand
The serenity of a clear blue mountain lake
And the colorado rocky mountain high
Ive seen it rainin fire in the sky
You can talk to God and listen to the casual reply
Rocky mountain high (high colorado) rocky mountain high (high colorado)
Now his life is full of wonder but his heart still knows some fear
Of a simple thing he cannot comprehend
Why they try to tear the mountains down to bring in a couple more
More people, more scars upon the land
And the colorado rocky mountain high
Ive seen it rainin fire in the sky
I know hed be a poorer man if he never saw an eagle fly
Rocky mountain high
Its a colorado rocky mountain high
Ive seen it rainin fire in the sky
Friends around the campfire and everybodys high
Rocky mountain high (high colorado) rocky mountain high (high colorado)
Rocky mountain high (high colorado) rocky mountain high[/]

with a little imagination, this Could be a rock climbing song.
Pictures of Home Deep Purple
Also a very rockin cool tune off the Machine Head Album
Observe:
Somebody's shouting
Up at a mountain
Only my own words return
Nobody's up there
Its a deception
When will I ever learn?
Chorus:
Im alone here
With emptiness eagles
and snow
Unfriendliness chilling my body
And whispering pictures of home
Wondering blindly
How can they find me
Maybe they dont even know
My body is shaking
Anticipating
The call of the black footed crow...
Here in this prison
Of my own making
Year after day I have grown
Into a hero
But theres no worship
Where have they hidden my thrown...

Matterhorn
-Country Gentleman Version
We started out from Bern one sunny August morn
There was just the four of us against the Matterhorn
There was Albert the Australian and John the Irishman
Me and Bill from Britain, mad dogs in the sun
Matterhorn, Matterhorn
Men have tried and men have died to climb the Matterhorn
That mighty Matterhorn
Two miles up we lost John and our rations fell below
Now Al and Bill are lying beneath an avalanche of snow
Now here I am alone and I know I cannot stop
Two more yards in front of me before I reach the top
Now here I am a dying upon the Matterhorn
Not a thing for me to lie in or a thing to keep me warm
The Queen would surely knight me if I could get back down
But it's closer here to heaven than it is back to the ground
Classic!

Don't know if anyone here would remember, but BITD (late 80's - early 90's)there was a punk bank in New York called Sewer Trout, made up of a bunch of climbers. They released one of their albums under the name New Vulgarians and on that album they resang most of their better songs, but with different lyrics that were all about climbing. Somewhere I've got the tape, but I have no idea where.
There was also a climbing partner of mine from here in the OC, named David Larsen, that produced his own music in the mid 90's that had an Agent Orange flair. Many of his songs were based on climbing experiences. One song I remember was Bugs on a Big Wall.
Wish I could quote lyrics as some of these were quite good. Maybe they could be found somewhere on the internet?

speaking of Odub (and I am a bit of a fan)
99 Problems
if you got head problems I feel bad for you son
i got 99 problems but this pitch ain't one
now my rope is clipped never did overgrip
may as well check this route off my ticklist
not an ounce of fear crept in up here
stamina's strong and my focus clear
if you got the issues up in your thinking
then i understand why you envy me
i mean if you were me and i was you
i would probably wish i could rhyme as smooth as me too
now what i hoping to gain from this
is to teach you a thing or two about leading
so listen up, buckle up, lean back
grow some balls and grab your rack
now it's time to get on the stone make your presence know
go crush the doubt finally finish the route
but you want me to lead because you're too damn dumb
i got 99 problems but this pitch ain't one
if you got head problems I feel bad for you son
i got 99 problems but this pitch ain't one
year's '95 and the crack is wide
this idiot's trying to fit his whole body inside
it won't be long before my patience breaks
all i'm hearing is ahh, ahh, take
i lean back, reel in the slack
hoping this poser gives up on this crack
but there he is hanging, dangling is space
"i almost had it, i was only 2 feet away"
jesus are you stupid or delusional kid
it took 25 minutes for you to move an inch
your technique's sorry, your lead head sucks
it'll take 2 hours to get to the crux
i'm not the guy who's gonna wait around
just to see your stupid ass get shut down
you got 2 choices i can lower you off
or you can pull yourself togethor
and get your ass to the top
he wasn't trying to hear it
starting throwing little fits
screaming and yelling and kicking at sh#t
clipped into a cam, said he'd stay all day.
i unclipped my belay and i walked away - see ya!
you got some time maybe you'll figure it out
or maybe your smartass will figure a way down
1 more thing before i leave you son
i got 99 problems but this pitch ain't one
if you got head problems I feel bad for you son
i got 99 problems but this pitch ain't one
sunday morning hiking the cliff line
wondering what trouble i'll get into this time
around the corner i see a kid on a route i put up
not moving, he looks kind of stuck
yelling down "i can't do the moves"
his friend is telling him all the wrong things to do
i interject, some friendly advice
not an ego thing i'm just trying to be nice
he's like "don't help me man i climb 5.12
you better check yourself before you wreck yourself
it all looks easy when you're on the ground
let me see you get up here then you'd get shut down"
shocked! i didn't know what to say
i was in a good mood now you wrecked my day.
calm down man, don't do what he did.
fk that, i'm gonna rip this kid.
look scooter you little punk bitch,
i hiked this 10 years ago i'm the 1st ascent.
i was in gym shoes only had 1 cam
and i didn't have to have half a roll of tape on my hands.
just for that i'm going to sit right here
wait til you bail then i'll steal your gear.
you ain't even to the crux, man it's just begun
i got 99 problems but this pitch ain't one
if you got head problems I feel bad for you son
i got 99 problems but this pitch ain't one

Sung to the tune of “On the Street Where You live”
Exfoliation slabs, they don’t bother me
‘Cause there’s really nowhere else on Earth I’d rather be,
All at once am I learning how to fly [alternate lyric – just about to die]
Now that I’m on the pitch that you led. [alternate lyric – crack where you bled.]

Best one I have heard as performed by leader and second, elbows linked, and singing in falsetto as they skip along.

We are off to do 5.10.
We leap and bound.
We hit the ground.

oh this is FUN! somebody should burn a CD ..
this one is for my wild and wacky HH,
"Ain't No Mountain High Enough" Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrel
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xz-UvQYAmbg
AIN'T NO MOUNTAIN HIGH - Marvin Gaye
Listen Baby
Ain't no mountain high.
Ain't no valley low.
Ain't no river wide enough baby.
If you need me, call me
No matter where you are
No matter how far,
dont worry baby
Just call my name
I'll be there in a hurry
You don't have to worry
cause baby,
There aint no mountain high enough
aint no valley low enough
aint no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you, babe
Remember the day
I set you free
I told you you could always count on me darling
From that day on, I made a vow
I'll be there when you want me
Someway, somehow
cause baby,
Ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you, babe
oh no darling
No wind, no rain
Nor winter storm
can't stop me baby
no no baby
Cause you are my goal
If your ever in trouble
I'll be there on the double
just send for me
oh baby!
My love is alive
way down in my heart
Although we are miles apart
If you ever need a helping hand
I'll be there on the double
Just as fast as I can
Don't you know that there
ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you babe

'Nine Hours Later' by Lycia
I climb to the mountain
to the top of the mountain
and nine hours later
I stop in despair
I try to envision
the face of the girl
but she's so far away
from the top of the world
she's the girl I love
this dark and cold of winter
makes me so lonely
so sad and lonely
in this dark room
and then for one moment
a deep and warm embrace
and nine hours later
she waits for me
she's the girl I love
at least for awhile
this all fades away
this all fades away

40 Ft
by Franz Ferdinand
As I glance once upon the foam
40 feet beneath my feet
The coldest calm falls
through the molten veins
Cooling all the blood to slush
Congeals around again
la la la
oh and 40 feet remain
Salt scales upon my drying arms
Burn my back beneath the sun
I am cold beneath the burning haze
Looking down looking down
Down, down again
la la la
oh and 40 feet remain

Please sing with a Scottish Accent!
Oh please dear Lord,
Don’t let me die,
I’ll never climb again.
(the chorus)
I’ve a wife and child
In Edinburgh,
A mother that needs help.
So please Dear Lord,
Just one more lead,
I’ll never climb again.
(chorus)
Oh please Dear Lord,
No more snow,
I’ll never climb again.
(chorus)
So Dear Lord,
Just let me live,
I’ll never climb again.
(chorus)
Of course, more verses existed.
Invented in the Canadian Rockies in the late 1970’s.
It was one of those bivouac inspirations that delights some, depresses others, and bores the hell out of most.

So nice and cheery.
Irving Berlin's Cheek to Cheek, sung by the wonderful Louis Armstrong in this case.
Heaven, I'm in Heaven,
And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak;
And I seem to find the happiness I seek
When we're out together dancing, cheek to cheek.
Heaven, I'm in Heaven,
And the cares that hang around me through the week
Seem to vanish like a gambler's lucky streak
When we're out together dancing, cheek to cheek.
Oh! I love to climb a mountain,
And to reach the highest peak,
But it doesn't thrill me half as much
As dancing cheek to cheek.
Oh! I love to go out fishing
In a river or a creek,
But I don't enjoy it half as much
As dancing cheek to cheek.
Dance with me
I want my arm about you;
The charm about you
Will carry me through to Heaven
I'm in Heaven,
And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak;
And I seem to find the happiness I seek
When we're out together dancing cheek to cheek

Well, we're big rock climbers
We got golden fingers and we're loved everywhere we go.
We talk about climbin'
An we talk about fallin'
And we give everybody a show.
We get all kind of thrills
Takin' all kinda spills
But the thrill that we ain't been findin'.
Is the one that'll get ya
When you get your picta
On the cover of the magazine Climbing.
Climbin' rag
Gonna see my picture on the cover.
Gonna buy five copies for my mother.
Gonna see my 5.12 face
On the cover of a climbin' rag!
I don't know why we ain't on the cover, man.
I mean, we're beautiful fellas?!?

Well, someone already posted the great Roger Dean art of said climber climbing a fantasy pillar in the YES album, "Fragile."
But, you failed to mention this YES epic song on the same album. Perhaps you were waiting for me to post it up -
I will always remember Jon Anderson introducing the song and talking about Himalaya climbers and that is the inspiration for the song . . .
This is the alpinist's epic ballad.
When you listen to this you have to get the 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound DVD audio version of "Fragile" and CRANK IT UP! You will then experience Nirvana.
South Side of the Sky
A river a mountain to be crossed
the sunshine in mountains sometimes lost
around the south side so cold that we cried
were we ever colder on that day a million miles away
it seemed from all of eternity
Move forward was my friends only cry
in deeper to somewhere we could lie
and rest for the day with cold in the way
were we ever colder on that day a million miles away
it seemed from all of eternity
The moments seemed lost in all the noise
a snow storm a stimulating voice
of warmth of the sky of warmth when you die
were we ever warmer on that day a million miles away
we seemed for all of eternity
The sunshine in mountains sometimes lost
the river can disregard the cost
and melt in the sky warmth when you die
were we ever warmer on that day a million miles away
we seemed from all of eternity

"Pulled Up", by the Talking Heads.
Mommy, Daddy, come and look at me now
I'm a big man in a great big town
Years ago who would believe it's true
Goes to show what a little faith can do
I was complaining, I was down in the dumps
I feel so strong now 'cause you pulled me up!
Pull me up up up up up up up up
I slipped, and I got pulled
Pulled up, I tripped, and then you pulled,
you pulled me up
I slipped, and I got pulled,
Pulled up, I slipped, and then you pulled,
you pulled me up pull me up pull me up...
Pulled me up up up up up up up up
I drift away to another land
Sleeping dreaming such a simple thing
I think of things that I might be
I see my name go down in history
I was complaining, I was down in the dumps
I feel so strong now 'cause you pulled me up!
Pull me up up up up up up up up
I slipped, and I got pulled,
pulled up, I tripped, and then you pulled,
you pulled me up
I tripped, and I got pulled
Pulled up, I slipped, and then you pulled
you pulled me up! Pulled me up up, Pulled me up...
Pulled me up up up up up up up up
I got up
'cause you pulled me up
I stood up
'cause you pulled me up
I got up
And that was because you pulled me up
I got up
In a little while you pulled me up
Pull me up up up up, up up up up!
Pull me up up up up up up up up!
I cast a shadow on the living-room wall
Dark and savage with a profile so sharp
Keep that wonderful food on the table
There's really no hurry I'll eat in a while
I was complaining, I was down in the dumps
I feel so strong now 'cause you pulled me up!
Pull me up up up up up up up up!
I slipped, and I got pulled
Pulled up, I tripped, and then you pulled,
you pulled me up
I slipped, and I got pulled
Pulled Up, I slipped,
And then you pulled, you pulled me up!
Pull me up...Pull me up...Watch out!
Pull me up up up up up up up up!
Pull me up up up up up up up up!
Pull me up up up up up up up up!

Back to Floyd again.....One Slip
A restless eye across a weary room
A glazed look and I was on the road to ruin
The music played and played as we whirled without end
No hint, no word her honour to defend
I will, I will she sighed to my request
And then she tossed her mane while my resolve was put
to the test
Then drowned in desire, our souls on fire
I led the way to the funeral pyre
And without a thought of the consequence
I gave to my decadence
One slip, and down the hole we fall,
It seems to take no time at all
A momentary lapse of reason
That binds a life for life
A small regret, you won't forget.
There'll be no sleep in here tonight
Was it love, or was it the idea of being in love?
Or was it the hand of fate, that seemed to fit just
like a glove?
The moment slipped by and soon the seeds were sown
The year grew late and neither one wanted to remain alone
One slip, and down the hole we fall,
It seems to take no time at all
A momentary lapse of reason
That binds a life for life
A small regret, you will never forget.
There'll be no sleep in here tonight
One slip... One slip...

Gravity
John Mayer
Gravity
Is working against me
And gravity
Wants to bring me down
Whoa I'll never know
What makes this man
With all the love
That his heart can stand
Dream of ways
To throw it all away
Whoa Gravity
Is working against me
And gravity
Wants to bring me down
Oh twice as much
Ain’t twice as good
And can't sustain
Like one half could
It's wanting more
It's gonna send me to my knees
Oh twice as much
Ain’t twice as good
And can't sustain
Like one half could
It's wanting more
It's gonna send me to my knees
Oh gravity
Stay the hell away from me
Oh gravity
Has taken better men than me
Now how can that be?
Just keep me where the light is
Just keep me where the light is
Just keep me where the light is
C’mon keep me where the light is
C’mon keep me where the light is
C’mon keep me where keep me where the light is

Poetry, not lyrics.
There are high places
that don't invite us,
sharp shapes, glacier-
scraped faces, whole
ranges whose given names
slip off. Any such relation
as we try to make
refuses to take. Some
high lakes are not for us,
some slick escarpments.
I'm giddy with thinking
where thinking can't stick.

Another Neil favorite,"Borrowed Tune"
I'm climbin' this ladder,
My head in the clouds
I hope that it matters,
I'm havin' my doubts.
I'm watchin' the skaters
Fly by on the lake.
Ice frozen six feet deep,
How long does it take?
I look out on peaceful lands
With no war nearby,
An ocean of shakin' hands
That grab at the sky.
I'm singin' this borrowed tune
I took from the Rolling Stones,
Alone in this empty room
Too wasted to write my own.
I'm climbin' this ladder,
My heads in the clouds
I hope that it matters.

Nirvana - Plateau
Many a hand has scaled the grand old face of the plateau
Some belonged to strangers, some to folks you know
Holy ghosts and talk show hosts are planted in the sand
To beautify the foothills, and shake the many hands
nothing on the top but a bucket and a mop
And an illustrated book about birds
See a lot up there but don't be scared
Who needs action when you get words
finished with the mop then you can stop
And look at what you've done
The plateau's clean, no dirt to be seen
And the work it was fun
nothing on the top but a bucket and a mop
And an illustrated book about birds
See a lot up there but don't be scared
Who needs action when you get words
Many a hands began to scan around for the next plateau
Some say it was Greenland, and some say Mexico
Others decided it was nowhere except for where they stood
But those were all just guesses, wouldn't help you if they could

Socal,
"Don't know if anyone here would remember, but BITD (late 80's - early 90's)there was a punk bank in New York called Sewer Trout, made up of a bunch of climbers. They released one of their albums under the name New Vulgarians and on that album they resang most of their better songs, but with different lyrics that were all about climbing. Somewhere I've got the tape, but I have no idea where. "
Sewer Trout were from Sacramento/Davis area. Only the lead singer was a climber. went on to do Physcobilly music. I have the tape kicking around somewhere. He killed himself a couple of years back. I talked whith him a few times but never climbed with him. I think he had a geology degree from Sac. State.

TAKING TIGER MOUNTAIN
We climbed and we climbed,
Oh, how we climbed
My, how we climbed
Over the stars to [the] top

Rescue Blues
Ryan Adams
Everybody wants you to be special
And everybody wants you to be high
They throw you down a rope when you're in trouble, Baby
Screamin' "save me"
They then charge you with the rescue blues
And everybody wants to see you suffer
They know that you need the pain so much
They throw you up a rope when you're too high
To cruise, Baby
Lord, you lose Lady
Then they charge you with the rescue blues
And everybody wants to see you fall
That's why the always love to get you high
And everybody knows you need the pain so much, Lady
Well, keep in touch, Baby
Just don't charge me with your rescue blues

Colonel Forbin's Ascent by Phish
Colonel Forbin stared up at the mountain
And wiped away the beads of sweat
That glistened on his brow
His tired feet were buried in the quagmire
And his bloodshot eyes saw all that lay between him
And fulfillment of his vow
And he felt his fingers wrap around a knotted root
And pulled his body upwards
To a sea green mossy boulder
And he dragged his weary sh#t-ass up the mountain
And he climbed so slowly
He climbed so slowly
Ahead
Ahead
Suddenly he heard the crack of thunder
And the rocks began to crumble overhead
And tumble down the mountain to the
Dismal swamp that lay beneath the jagged cliffs
through which his path had led
And the earth began to quake beneath his feet
And the mighty mountain changed before his eyes
And he stood amidst a sea of dust and rocks and stones
Cascading down the mountain
And a thousand birds were headed for the sky. Oh...

The English Beat - Save It For Later
Two dozen other dirty lovers
Must be a sucker for it
Cry, Cry, but I don't need my mother
Just Hold My hand while I come
To a decision on it
Sooner or later
Your legs give way, you hit the ground
Save it for later
Don't run away and let me down
Sooner or later
You hit the deck, you get found out
Save it for later
Don't run away and let me down
You let me down
Black air and seven seas and rotten through
But what can you do?
I don't know how I'm meant to act with you lot
Sometimes I don't try
I just now, now, now, now ,now .....
Two dozen other stupid reasons
Why we should suffer for this
Don't bother trying to explain them
Just hold my hand while I come
To a decision on it

The perfect musical accompaniment for burly offwidth
Something shows in your face
Aren't you forgetting yourself?
Nearly let your mask slip
Twist and crawl, twist and crawl, twist and crawl
Twist and crawl, twist and crawl, twist and crawl
Emotion packed in every tear
Emotion mirrors your fears
Smile and say, "Hello dear"
Twist and crawl, twist and crawl, twist and crawl
You make me twist and crawl, twist and crawl, twist and crawl
Walk into a nightclub
See you standing in there
Both your eyes are on me
Wonder what makes you care
Wonder what makes you stare
Walk into a nightclub
All your friends are in there
Is that really blond hair?
Why don't you play fair
You could be in Mayfair?
You broke my heart in several pieces
Not supposed to be that okay
Have to read the books again
Twist and crawl, twist and crawl, twist and crawl
Twist and crawl, twist and crawl, twist and crawl
But you can't hurt me anymore
I haven't got a heart no more
No feelings get in my way
Twist and crawl, twist and crawl, twist and crawl
You make me twist and crawl, twist and crawl, twist and crawl
Did you think that I'd return?
Emotions all I need to learn
Now you're gonna feel the same
Vice-a-versa love and pain
Vice-a-versa love and pain
Did you think that I'd return?
Emotions all I need to learn
Now you're gonna feel the same
Vice-a-versa love and pain
Vice-a-versa love and pain
Now I've made a new way
Now my mind is rearranged
Now I can't be sure again
Twist and crawl, twist and crawl, twist and crawl
Twist and crawl, twist and crawl, twist and crawl
Are we really happy
Or maybe just pretending?
I can't tell the difference
Twist and crawl, twist and crawl, twist and crawl
You make me twist and crawl, twist and crawl, twist and crawl
I can have a new face
I can have a new body
I can have a new boy
I can have a new girl
I can have a new world
I can have a new face
I can have a new body
I can have a new boy
I can have a new girl
I can have a new world
I can have a twist and crawl
I can have a twist and crawl
Twist and crawl, twist and crawl, twist and crawl

Three songs I heard on my way climbing yesterday-
Not necessarily about climbing but....
Magnolia Mountain
"I want to go to Magnolia Mountain
And lay my weary head down
Down on the rocks
On the mountain my savior made
Steady my soul and ease my worry
Hold me when I rattle like a hummingbird hummin'
Tie me to the rocks on the mountain my savior made"
Don't Fail Me Now
"Why you do me wrong....when the rope gets tight?
When the rope gets tight
When the rope gets tight"
Hard Way To Fall
"And it's a hard way to fall
And this ain't the easy way down"
Damn lucky I made it home in one piece!!!
No falls!

[Click to View YouTube Video]Widespread Panic - Vacation
Mountains looked like fun.
Climbed up the to sun.
And from the peak, I got such a view, I forgot to hang on.
The wind came rushing in
And broke my safety-pin.
But as I flew by, you threw me a line. Saved again!
I didn't see you were right next to me
But I'm so glad you could make it.
With you by my side, I might get back alive
From my next vacation.

I AM A SOLO WALL CLIMBER
by "Pass the Pitons" Pete Zabrok
Oakville, Ontario
October 6, 2001
Give him a beer and he'll sing it for you.
Give him another beer and he'll stop singing.
Sung to the Monty Python tune "Decomposing Composers" by Michael Palin,
which itself bears strong resemblance to Pachelbel's Canon
Intro and Verse:
D \ A \ Bm \ Fsharp m \ G \ D \ Em \ A
Chorus: D \ G \ Bm \ A \ D \ G \ A \ D
Verse:
Oh I'm getting too old for tight finger locks,
and hand cracks just don't cut it no more,
you can leave the offwidths to big-muscled jocks,
and free climbing's becoming a bore
Sure, Sacherer Crackers with butter taste good
like Cookies in the Twilight Zone,
but I won't stick my fingers inside of a crack
and grind my skin right down to the bone
Chorus:
I am a solo wall climber,
there's very few like me you'll meet
my partner is Wee-Wee the Big Wall Crab,
and I'm "Pass the Pitons" Pete
Yes, you can turn pages in free climbing guides
and drool over pictures in books
but I'll never wear EBs, or Ninjas or such
I'd really rather pull out my hooks
You won't see me wobbling or calling out "take!"
as free climbing woosies will do
ev'ry ten seconds or so it would seem
when they're flailing and falling near you
I am a solo wall climber -
a highly unusual man,
my bank account's empty, my haulbags are full
and my aid rack's worth more than my van
No showers of white shall come down from my hands
I don't own a chalkbag - that's good
you'll see where I've been pasting heads and the like,
it's obvious, just look for my blood
From neighbouring routes you can easily see
my painted-up ledge, it looks fab,
my shout back to you will ring loud and ring true,
"That isn't a flag, it's a CRAB!"
I am a solo wall climber -
it's what God has meant me to be,
you can keep all your shiny new quickdraws,
just pass all your pitons to me
At twilight the wind dies and quiet abounds
and silence lies as still as the moon,
or at least it seems so til my bivi's set up
and I crank out the evening's first tune
In morning all climbers make quick alpine starts
In their hurry to get up the hill
But I'll drink more coffee, it isn't yet noon
So there's plenty of time to refill
I am a solo wall climber
With plenty of tricks in my pouch
My training is ever so rig'rous
I only climb straight off the couch
Don't bore me with stories of bolts you have clipped
Or 5.12 routes that you have sent
I couldn't care less any more because now I'm in
Free Climbing Retirement
Yes, solo wall climbing is true Peace on Earth
Away from life's struggles and strife
Nobody can bug me or ask me for dough,
Especially that bitch, my ex-wife
I am a solo wall climber -
my leads take me ten or twelve hours
But at least I don't smell too disgusting
Cuz I bring up my solar-power'd shower
Yes I am a solo wall climber -
a radder dude you'll never meet,
Point high on the wall at the speck and then shout,
"Look up! It's 'Pass the Pitons' Pete!"

Sewer Trout was from Sacramento Not new york. Only the singer was a climber and just had his band back him up. I used to have tape too but it is lost in my garage or gone by now. The singer committed suicide a few years back. With a little searching on the web there is a bit more.

The Mountain Goats: "Third Snow Song". Not really a song about climbing but the descriptive language always reminded me of climbing:
In January I took a short walk
Down to the Broadway bridge
Two and a half blocks
When you scrape the ice away
You can read the bridge dedication
I can feel the cold air coming in through my teeth
I saw the bridge
I saw the water underneath
That's a whole lotta water
That's a whole lotta water
I took the key that I"d forgotten the function of
Twisted it from the keyring as the bridge loomed above
I hammered it against the ice
I hammered it against the ice

Some great entries on this thread.. I love how music (words) can evoke the feelings that one can experience when in the mountains, and how some songs keep filling the mind during the long slogs.
I have a big list.
This one i came upon more recently

"Start A Fire"
I was born a baby boy a long time ago
Back when the hillsides were green and the water would flow
But nights they fall and settle like snow
I watched as the hillsides turned white with nowhere to go
Oh think I’m gonna start a fire
Oh think I’m gonna start a fire
Now my heart’s a frozen lake where streams used to flow
Down to the forest of my mind where memory would grow
Now I walk amongst the trees where the last sun glows
The leaves are all golden and brown with nowhere to go
Oh think I’m gonna start a fire
Oh think I’m gonna start a fire
My skin like these boulders
Is cracking and older
With each passing year that goes
My cliff face is crumbling
Silently tumbling
Down to the water below
And if I light a match I’ll be able to catch
The last sun before it goes
And oh well I think I’m gonna start a fire
Oh think I’m gonna start a fire
And oh think I’m gonna start a fire now

The verse:
I saw a friend who doesn't know that I'm his friend just yet,
His eyes & mouth were widely open, & his jaw was set,
Like he'd fell off a cliff and hadn't hit the bottom yet,
Wish he wouldn't pull those type of things on me with out a net,
I had him up to the house one time. We were having a real good time,. . .

from a 2011 thread "best bars near a climbing area":
http://www.supertopo.com/climbing/thread.php?topic_id=1617081
and by the way ... "where the hell is roscoe?" ... ha, local joke.
i played this song ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJJQ2O4qBAM ...
on the juke box at the grizzly bar with my final load sitting on the porch
all set for a solo on one of the bigger features up the east rosebud.
after about the third repeat the cowboys sort of nudged me out the door,
but the song kept rolling around in my head for the next couple days.
after four pitches i decided i wasn't a soloist, just a guy without a partner.
that mushroom swiss burger played heavily on my decision

I vaguely recall this from some Sierra Club Rock Climbing Section newsletter back when there was such a thing - probably early 50s. It's fragmentary, I think there was more, which is an awful thought.
Sung to the tune of Battle Hymn of the Republic.
***
Will it go around the chockstone asked belayer, looking up?
The leader feebly answered yes and clawed his way on up.
He was driving in a piton when his foothold crumbled out
And they ain’t gonna climb no more.
Chorus
Gory, gory what a helluva way to die.
Gory, gory what a helluva way to die.
Gory, gory what a helluva way to die
And they ain’t gonna climb no more.
There was blood upon the rucksacks
There were brains upon the ropes,
Intestines were all strewn about across the rocky slopes.
They picked them up in baskets after salvaging the ropes
And they ain’t gonna climb no more.
Chorus etc.
