Yesterday's LA Times reported that schools are crowded with people learning to repair tower windmills. It was said the job is like " working on a school bus perched on the top of a very high pole." The students have to be unafraid of heights and able quickly to climb 450 feet several times a day. Someone from a local firm, Clipper Wind Power, showed a picture of the inside of one of these. It really is as big as a school bus or bigger.
I suspect what needs to be maintained are electronic control systems, their actuators, brakes and maybe an occasional bearing. Interesting.
I know if I had to go up and down a 450 foot ladder time and again, I would leave a 450 foot rope hanging and just rap down.
