Few people know how multifaceted Jeff is; not just climbing and videography.
Some climbers staying in a motel just about to repeat one of his routes in Capital Reef might be amazed to discover he built the motel too!
Or perhaps there are climbers who enjoy visiting Hawaii but don't realize that Jeff made pioneering efforts as an island courier.
And then there's the sheep herding,..well, we won't talk about that,..

I've never met the man in person but he was gracious enough to reply to an email I sent him. Funny how the greats of our sport seem to keep the little guy in mind too. Thanks Jeff.

I also have had Mal Daly, Tommy Caldwell, Beth Rodden and Karl Baba chat with me at the base. Where else and what other sport does that happen? Even Lynn Hill and Largo took the time to reply to an email I sent. Try and send an email to Bret Farve.

I'm not sure what makes this true. I think it is something we share about what happens on the sharp end. Expert or not, the consequences can be, serious. Perhaps it's just the rock has worn the edges of ego off. Good deal, eh?

Well, Steve (and others), my inclination is to protest all this praise. But..instead...I'll just lower my head, take a few deep breaths ...come up for air...and say "Thank you all". What a deep well of support is here. I am one fortunate SOB.

Haven't meet Jello yet, but heard and read lots of good stuff. Here's to you ...... kinda speechless (wordless) you've done so much in the cimbing world and the world in general.... and I'm just a newbie climber....but I'm good at life and can appreciate your incredible one.

Cheers Jello, Peace and Joy from Lynne

as i recently wrote recently to a new friend in this venue:

"a generation behind him, i watched from a distance his maturation from rock, to ice, and then the high mountains (never abandoning any of the former as he expanded his range of tricks). that turned me on to 'the next thing to at least explore'. and in doing so Jeff helped me find what has long been the joy of my life. (my stuff, of course, still orders of magnitude below what he accomplished decades ago). bless his mighty heart for opening those worlds to me."

and some of the sly tricks i learned from his ice books have saved this dog's toosh more than once.

met him just a couple times, once in khumbu. as wicked smart and funny as he is skilled in climbing's many facets. and no ego i could discern, we mostly talked about what fay stuff i was up to.

small wonder i hold him in such high esteem.

all good things, Jeff, as one of your remarkable character so richly deserves.

[well, that's this verbose dog's best effort at a bump -- guess i could have just said 'bump')

I will be one of those to second any motion for
Jeff Lowe as one of our special paragons of
inspiration. He is truly the measure of the art,
and yet I wish we had climbed together more. Still,
whenever we are together I get the sense we have
done a thousand climbs together. Our spirits are
linked through many experiences, parallel universes,
Greg Lowe, for example, being a brother to both
of us, and so on... Hats off to my friend,

I fell a long way, I was ice climbing, I pulled gear, I BROKE a carabiner....I broke myself pretty bad.......It was Vail...I went to see Jello in Ned at his office when I just started to walk again.....
He said, "Jim sometimes that happens"

Glad I met Jello then and in the future, glad I ski, and climb with his buddy Mike Carr.....they are all part of the same sect.

Figure it out, get it done, drink a beer and laugh....

Peace Jello.......keep going..go and go, and go, and go..

Don't stop...if your hands are all you have....type, and type, and type......

I can't help but read the title of this thread as: "Jello, the class clown...". But it would really be beneath me to interrupt all the beautiful sentiments flowing my way like waves splashing on a rocky promontory on a calm, azure day. But I do need to take a poke or two at myself, too, just to keep my head anchored firmly to my neck. You all wouldn't be so impressed if you knew me as well as I know myself. But don't ask me to clue you in..

I do like me when I read stories like Decko's, pip the dog and others that have been related here in other Taco spreads. I'm not in any way ego-less, but I do recognise ego when it shows up, and have learned mostly how to keep it from taking over, so the lessons that ego prevents, can be learned, and the experiences that ego masks, can be fully lived. But then I'll find myself tooting my own horn on this very forum...and I giggle to myself in embarassement.

You are a wonderfull extended family; wierdoes, oddjobs, crazzies and all.

"You all wouldn't be so impressed if you knew me as well as I know myself."

This is universal, Jeff. We could all say this about ourselves,
regardless of the identity of the "you all" and the degree of
the "so impressed."

But, you must realize, in most cases, it doesn't work that way.
If we knew all those hideous aspects of your nature, we'd be
thinking more along the lines How about that...wrestling with
those personal Demons all these years, and he still turned into
a Total Class Act. We're so lucky he came along.

Laughing! Oh, that was hilarious! Never mix that medication with alcohol because in less than five minutes your going to pass out where you are standing! You might pass out in the hallway/bathroom... You might even get lucky and pass out to land on an Anastasia. I really had no clue what hit me! All I knew was that it was big, heavy and "snoring." I can honestly say that it was a very polite snore too!

Just jello's presence over the past few years here on ST is an inspiration. He may not be a saint, but he's the real deal human being. Works hard to be positive, present, and giving, is honest about himself and, the kicker, has a sense of humor about himself.

I went to one of his slide shows a few years back and he tells a good story too. He HAS a good story.

We all could do better by emulating him.

Thanks jello!

Thank you Mr Frost.
In the seventies all us Gunnison whanklings lived in jaw dropping awe of the latest Lowe adventure in alpine minimalism. Even the few who could follow the paths he blazed just shook their heads in humility. Mr Jello your portfolio of brilliant accomplishments is a testament to the possible that will light the way undimmed for generations of future aspirants.
