SoCallies,

In case you haven't noticed things ain't so hot these days. To wit, I am folding my woodworking/contractor's tent in preparation for a move to a healthier socio-economic clime. I may just downsize for a while but I haven't decided. I'm definitely moving out of my 3000 square foot shop although it will probably not happen for a few months.

In any event, since I grew up in Chicago, ahmma gonna makea yous an offer yous can't refuse. If any of yous want some help with your DIY home improvement projects I'd like to help you. I need to buff up my karma so you can buff up your house. I'm especailly mindful of single moms and anybody not rolling in the deep hay.

1. Advice is free- I've been in this biz for a looong time. Our motto here is "If it is wood, metal, glass, tile, or stone we can build it-anything else we'll get some help" I can probably give you a reasonably accurate estimate based on a few emails.

2. I can get you my contractor's price on wood products, plumbing supplies, special woodworking fasteners and hardware, finishing supplies, doors, windows, and even some appliances. I noticed Bluering's thread mentioning the highway robbery prices he was quoted for lumber and I got sick to my stomach. The yards are charging for delivery these days but only $50. If you are willing to go pick it up that can be arranged in some cases.

3. If you have a modestly sized woodworking/cabinetry project I am willing to help out in a number of ways.
a. I will design it for a very modest fee using my 3D CAD program.
b. I can do some of the preliminary woodworking like ripping plywood on my $46K saw, edgebanding same, drilling adjustable shelf holes, etc. Again, for Tacos I will not charge the regular shop time. I'll likely do it after hours so it will be an offer you can't refuse.
c. If we can swing it I can let you use a corner of the 3000 square foot shop to put it together yourself with my 'help' and tools other than the ones you might come to grief on.
d. I have a spray booth - I can't let you 'pull the trigger' but if we can set you up with a wipe-on finish I'll let you use the booth and the drying racks as long as we don't need them. I can 'pull the trigger' for you at a reduced rate and since it goes really quickly, like as fast as you can put the pieces in front of me, that is not going to cost you much. Mind you, I want to be as generous as I can but I still am trying to eat 3 squares a day too.

Oh, I guess I should mention my shop is in da hood de Azusa. However, if all you want is for me to arrange getting stuff for you then that isn't so important. If you want to pick it up yourself my main suppliers are in Tustin (plywood) and downtown LA (hardwoods), Like I said, they'll deliver anywhere pretty much for $50.

sincerely yours,
Reilly the Wood Butcher

Oh, I'm not really going anywhere soon; my wife has to put in a few more years on her grindstone. I am probably just gonna sell some of the big expensive machines and downsize to a smaller shop with less overhead and try flyin' under the Excramentoads' radar. That's a big part of my decision to fold the tent. The amount of paperwork it takes to run a small business here is unbelievable! So even after I move out of the big shop I will likely still be available for karma buffing.

If you want to see some of my work it is http://imageevent.com/reillyfram/framcabinetry;jsessionid=2nolnmwbp2.penguin_s I guess we can't do HTML here, eh?

Hmmm, well I have a project I am working on right now that maybe you could help with...

We are doing a remodel of my family home to prep for sale and we would like to redo the cabinet doors in the kitchen and living room. I am actually going out to research a quote tomorrow to see what it would cost but if you can help... We are looking at about 28-30 cabinet doors (custom built so probably not a standard size) and about half a dozen drawer fronts. I am located in Nor Cal so this would obviously involve shipping them to me or me coming down to pick them up and I would not be involved in the creation, leaving this solely in your hands.

If this sounds like something you may be interested in, please contact me through my supertopo email and maybe we can do some business. I would prefer to throw my money at someone in the climbing community rather than the local lumber shop which has gotten enough of my money already!

Wow! Really nice work, Reilly, and thanks for the offer. I may have a project or two in the somewhat near future.

I was going to suggest you contact Kris Solem. If you need the contact info, let me know. Kris is in Monrovia, as well and has been doing a ton of remodeling, etc. at his house... Jsut a thought since you guys live so close to each other.

Live in W Covina, work in Irwindale so I'm right around the corner.

I've got a kitchen I need to redo, but low budget since the ole lady isn't working right now.

I have decent skills but no cabinet making machinery other than a 70+ year old table saw and a cheap router table.

We need to talk.

Nice way to lose the 'Lazy Susan' corner cabinet. Not sure i ever saw that done.

Hey reily... you said on another thread you spent some time in Newport Beach in the early 70's or so. I have some good friends that spent alot of time at the "wedge" around then..

Ever heard of a Jamie Higginson or a John Allen,, Jeff Sweeny maybe?

Spectacular really. Wish the home expansion/larger kitchen was on this moon cycle.....

Nice work Reilly

The paper work, the noise and the dust combined are too much. Downsizing is healthy.

Good luck
