Just had a great two-day reunion with my climbing buddy of many years and many epics - David Hersey. We roomed together, climbed together, and philosophized together, but ended up living pretty far apart geographically for various reasons. I just got back this afternoon from a quick overnight trip to the San Diego area where he and I hung out, reminisced, and looked at pictures I took but hadn't seen in years. I got to tell his wife stories that she either hadn't yet heard, or wondered if they could actually be true. That was pretty fun.

Aside from Dave being a great guy and a great friend, there's something about the shared experiences of climbing together that makes it that much better. Maybe you've had that experience. We are committed to not letting anymore big chunks of time elapse before hitting the rocks together again.

Here's an old post (posted on some earlier thread) of Dave and me back around '79 or so, out at Santee. I'm the one in the middle, and Dave's on the right. (No pics from this weekend--not even a phone pic. Dang!)

Hey Tarbuster,

No, he's not on ST, though that'd be a reasonable assumption. This time he contacted me out of the blue, after having come across one of my kayaking videos online somewhere. He actually just moved back to the San Diego area from your neck o' the woods.

Cheers.

Good job mooser!
Yeah man, there's nothing like hooking up with an old climbing pal. I was fortunate to do it twice on one road trip in 07.

Climbed with Mark Vojtko (San Diego boy) in New Hampshire, and Brian Battista in Maine. Cool to hook up with them out there, especially since I have spent almost my whole life in the west!

Both old climbing/military brothers from the early 80's.

I chased Rhodo-Router down on the freeway once, he still had his old "Captain America" truck, so it was easy to pick him out. Goin' south out of Nashville, I forget what I was hauling.
Didn't get to climb, that time, but it was very cool to meet up with an old friend in a random spot.
Remember that encounter, Rob? chased down by the crazed Semi?
Haha.

My life was so "saved" this past year by linking up with climbers I had not connected with in 20 plus years. (See the Old Pics and Slides, Thread. ) Joy, Lynne

Lynne, we all do what we can, in our own way in our own time...

It was good meeting you last year. Sometimes you get reunited with people you never met before.

I lost touch with the guy I did my first El Cap route with back in 82. His name is Dave Webster. He moved to Arizona in 85 and I totally lost the connection. About five years ago I started looking for him on the Internet. I found some people he climbed with and a gym in Tucson that he once frequented but no Dave. I then remembered about two years ago that his wife worked for IBM. Another good friend of mine works there and I asked him if he could help when I was visiting him in Cali. He got on his computer and accessed the company employee listings and we found her, she still worked there! Within a day I was talking to him on the phone. I can't tell you how good that felt after searching for years. Great thread!
