Unless you watch TV, you'd never know anything was different.

Day-to-day American life goes on today exactly the [mc]same as it did last week.

Only Geeks think they can see a *difference*.

TGT,

Your post reflects my pre-election fears, but so far, he's doing OK. I hope he continues doing well. That depends on his ability to keep his congressional friends, or maybe I should say fiends, in check.

As for Yo-Yo Ma, as fine a cellist as he is, he disappoints me in the music that really matters -- the Beethoven Sonatas Ops. 102a and 102b -- but I still liked the ensemble. Overall, it was a good day and a good week, even for this Republican.

I ferverently hope that he's a down and dirty pragmatic Chicago pol, but I fear he's going to be every bit a Carter.

As far as the inaguration,

Aretha, overwrought, (I'l give her slack for the emotion and the cold)

Williams score, somber, depressing

The poet, an embarasing waste of third grade vocabulary

The speech, journeyman in delivery, trite in composition.

The benediction, insulting to those that voted him into office.

The Marines and the Navy, on top of it as always.

The Onion did a piece entitled "Bush: 'Our Long National Nightmare Of Peace And Prosperity Is Finally Over'" http://www.theonion.com/content/node/28784

Dated January 17th, 2001. Bitter irony.

Now I did not see or hear the inauguration, so I cannot comment on it.

But I was wondering what the Aretha Hat thread was about. Am I to understand that Aretha Franklin wore some sort of hat that caused a bit of comments?

Did the Beatles really play live on the Ed Sullivan Show, or was it taped and they lipped the words?

Maybe my nephew, once he graduates from the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego this week, can apply to get into the Marine Corps Band. At least it will keep him out of harm’s way.
