Totally forgot about this micro-classic that Richard Harrison and I first bagged, like, 125 years ago out at Josh: The Aiguille d' Joshua Tree. BITD, it used to be a sort of right of passage to solo up and down the thing (5.6 or 5.7 - no pro). Wonder if anyone goes out there anymore, besides Sean here.

Been up it 3 or four times. One of the cool circus tricks of Josh.

I still haven't even seen it in real life.....Maybe next time.

But I'm way to chicken to try climbing the damned thing to the top and then downclimb it.

Epperson had Waugh hanging all over the thing a year or two ago getting 'old guy with white hair' photos. Pretty classic.

One of my visits it was howling windy, made it fun to lean into the wind over the edge...

I wonder if one could lassoo the top, and pull it over? On some windy dark night, that is - just hurrying up natural forces. It would be like Trigger Finger at Peshastin, which fell over in 1978 or so.

Edit: Surely Tarbuster must have a lassoo?

*special cross thread alert*

What's goofier?
The Aguille d'Josh or this guy???

(stupendous photo by Sewellymon, circa 1980)

I mean, this pic is a must gaze.
If you ever wundered why you love Russ...
Or correspondingly need to know where/how/who/why things turned for us out in Josh...

This is the linchpin.
Whew.

Some of you need to learn how to crop out the base of the thing.

Came across it in a circumnavigation of Hidden Valley a couple of decades ago. What a cool formation to stumble onto. All of the old mini dams and the fireplace out there were cool also.

Tarbuster , that photo SO reminds me of the Saturday Night Live catholic school girl(I don't know her name or who played her; she wore a school uniform, and would stick her fingers in her armpits when she was nervous)
