A while back ago I stumbled across this incredible collection of photos that were available on-line. The Pomona Library system had digitized and posted a collection of almost 9,000 photos taken from 1915 to the 1950's by Brandon Frasher. All over the Southwest-but an aweful lot from the Eastside.
They're not climbing photos-but it's pretty cool to see what things used to look like.
Frasher photo collection

Tioga Pass in 1926. Look at the road to the far left. Musta felt like 5.9 to just drive there.

Lone Pine in 1928. The Dow was a little smaller back then

Bishop in 1926. Probably couldn't get a latte back then

They even had stuff for Locker-chicks in bathing suits. Mono Lake 1933(Mark Twain day)

You can find cool stuff with the right search words.Deja vu for those whoever won one of IHATEPLASTIC's contests. Hope you all like it.

Jim, thanks for the post & pictures....Love History!..fun.

The Independence Museum is a great place for eastside history/pictures, also the New Manzanar National historic site

Library of congress is a great source for pictorial history..
some amazing pics of Manzanar in the town of Independence.

Do they put these pics on a time limit? They were up..now gone.

Not to take the fun out of posting up old photos but PLEASE read the fine print and respect the copyrights and restrictions.

The Pomona Public Library makes no assertions as to ownership of any original copyrights to images digitized for this site. However, these images are intended for Personal or Research use only. Any other kind of use, including, but not limited to commercial or scholarly publication in any medium or format, public exhibition, or use online or in a web site, may be subject to additional restrictions including but not limited to the copyrights held by parties other than the Library. USERS ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE for determining the existence of such rights and for obtaining any permissions and/or paying associated fees necessary for the proposed use.

I would suggest putting in the links for the photos rather than including the photos.

Appreciate the concern S.S. Only put up the few images so people could get an idea what the actual site holds. A link and nothing else provided wouldn't have been very inspiring.
Now, regarding the coffee table book I'm working on, that could be an a problem...

Happy news years Nita.
