By 2013, do you think there will be biofuel generation capable of replacing 2.5% of our current gasoline consumption? (10 million gallons per day).

Do you think we could produce 10 million gallons in all of 2013?

(2.5% divided by 365 or 0.007% of our gasoline consumption)

Are you asking is it possible or economically viable?

Hmm. Well my first question was simply factual. But I can see that the second brings the viability into the picture. And the title is about possibility. Sorry to pose it so ambiguously.

I suppose viability is just a matter of price assuming that it is possible. So if we assume that the price of alternatives goes high enough...

But really the question should be "Will we?" - That brings the range of prices between now and then properly into play.

Just heard on my computer a report from the "inventor" of Kudzinol. It is made from fermenting KUDZU, the scourge plant of the South US. Said to be "eating the South." Started a car using it and said all he has made/making is SOLD.

The cost and time of replacing the food crops used to make ethanol is a sad action for the poor. The figures show many years to replace. Kudzu is something we want to get rid of. It can easily grow 12 inches per day!

So how much methane can algae produce? Say there was a setup that takes up a city lot, how much would you get? I saw a demonstration at BurningMan 07, was going to get more details then some guy burns the man early (Wed morning?). No more exhibits.
