Today marks the 10th anniversary of our good friend Dan Osman's departure.
Here's how I remember him in life.

Strong handshake, strong presence, dashing, daring, WILD, laughing, empowering, powerful stance, purposeful gait, perfect smile.

I miss him very much.

Please post some thoughts or memories.

There was also a very subtle, quiet, gentle and heartfelt presence to the man.

Although he pursued many outrageous feats, he was also, in a humble and instructive way, in awe of many of us: as achievers and as human beings.

Yeah Dan 0 ,,,, we miss you down here on the terrestrial side of existence.

Jay Smith had a gig guiding navy Seals. Dan was a guide on a few of these experiences. The Seals take pride in being bad ass. How tough are you. The rules were to give and take in close to equal amounts - being more bad ass if you could give a little more than the rest. Dan could play this game with total joy and get the seals at their own game. Be it soloing Owen's River Gorge routes in flip flops or never being affected by their taunts, Dan was a master. Always cool.

The story of his duffle getting stolen in Oakland is legend. Best recount is from Singer, who was in the same place at the time. Something about getting all his stuff back at a cost that what most of us would see as great risk. Anyone out there know the story?

Dan was generous, considerate, creative and a bit wild. To say he lived life to the fullest is an understatement. It implies a boundary with a set capacity. Something being full. Life for Dan was infinite.

Dan, Intense,
Dan loved Life and Nature with passion. “We are to leave traces of us on earth in what we are skilled for”

Dan, Rock artist, fluid, graceful "ital" energy NRJ, he realized his dreams over past traumas; i.e. locked between 6 walls + , escaping "the middle of silence"
Dan gave me the nick icy(80) he is my guide in the face of fear and pain, anchor encore and helps me jump in or against complicated systems. (no rope)
Lost in amnesia, found him on Rainbowbridge to infinity.
Dan was much wiser then i miss him
merci, grigri.

I never met Dan Osman but seeing him climb in videos inspired me to learn to climb. This summer I went out and climbed bears reach in Tahoe which I watched him solo in 4 minutes and change. The day before, my wife and I got a thousand dollars worth of gear/clothes stolen out of our car which had been our basecamp for the past 4 months.

Being there was a dream fulfilled and completing the climb was a powerful experience, probably the high point of the entire trip. I have no deep words, just a heartfelt appreciation for the man and what he means to me and what he meant to people fortunate enough to know him personally.

I remember how he interrogated me about the swing out of the Black Dihedral...When we climbed South Seas /PO, I reckon we could've used another line for lower outs. I pulled into the anchor & cut loose a couple times. Well, Danno was watching & I guess he liked what he saw, because he had to know specifics.
He'd set up jumps & swings before, & had some great videos.
Always one to try it all...

Seamus, thank you for that cool image! Is that Eric Pearlman in the background?
I recently saw him at the Nose Reunion..the guy does not change, still a youngster!

I had a nice candle burning for Dano all day yesterday. It lights up a photo of him and is a great vibe!

Thanks everyone, I'm glad we remembered.

Happy Thanksgiving...I'm thankful for the cool connection this site provides.

I still miss Dano. He moved to Hemet about a year after I did. One of the nicest folks I met in climbing, and lots of good memories.

I never understood the jumping stuff.

LEB - thanks for those vids. I hadn't seen the first one (outside of the scenes the Masters of Stone V).

Unfortunately, in the second vid they cut out one of the best parts, where he says:
"God, I love this climb" -with the wind blowing through his hair in the late afternoon sun.

The best part about reading that story is knowing it's 100% true. Sometimes you hear/read things and wonder what really happened. But with Dano you know that if anything he downplayed some stuff.

I had a friend like that who came back from Spain and told a group of people at a party how he did the running of the bulls naked. Most people thought he was pulling their legs, but I knew him and knew it was true.
