So Cal Hell

I was born in Los Angeles co. all my teenage years I dreamed of escaping to Colorado or other ski areas type places. In time, I figured out no way did I want to live in Colorado and decided to head for the Eastside. It took quite a bit more years before I was able to move to the Eastside. Was very happy there and happy to have left the concrete jungle of the LA basin.
But now I am back due to a few circumstances, hence why I refer to So Cal as Hell!!!! It isn't so bad cause I actually live in Long Beach on the OC border and only a short distance to the beach.
I feel like someday I will return to the Eastside since that is my absolute favorite area in this state!!!
Meanwhile, shall content myself to Joshua Tree, Idyllwild, Big Bear, New Jack, ect....

Don't think there is any climbing in Long beach besides the local gym.

Peter, 1 hour drive out of Red Bluff takes you to the Natural Bridge. Good limestone sport climbing. 36 West to Wildwood road, towards Hayfork. The bridge is 1 mile down a fire road off of Wildwood. Climbing is permitted, but this is an access sensitive crag. Well worth it though-

Great stories all. My family came out here in 1910 from New Mexico, where they'd been since coming over from Spain with Cortez and splitting after the big war. Seems there was a feud with another ranching family, and about 30 people from the respective ranches died in one night, and my great grandpa, and his young wife took off in the middle of the night. The settled in the area now known as "Magic Mountain" theme park, shooting deer, cattle ranching, growing beans, etc.
I'm glad they did, not that I dislike the Sangre de Cristos...

Peter... sorry to hear about your girlfriends mom. Lassen has some pretty cool looking volcanic stuff (not necessarily accessible at this time of year though), so does Castle peak (or craigs?) towards Shasta.

I do miss the golden sunrise peaking through the fog shrouds with the rhythmical sets of waves changing a flat canopy of tranquility to a wildly tilted playground of energy unfolding beneath your feet, pondering the consequences of not making the next section while flirting with the ever-steepening lip then pulling out and watching a dolphin on the next wave show you how it's really done. Towel changing into business attire and shortly thereafter trying to explain to clients why my nose just starting dripping like a faucet after forgetfully leaning down to pick something up grinning ear-to-ear at the contrasting environments experienced within the span of a day.

I don't miss the traffic though. A bad commute in So. UT means two out of the four lights were red adding two whole extra minutes while taking in the rising sun unfolding countless shades of red rocks, blue skies and ravens making their morning commute towards the mountains. All things have their trade-offs I suppose.

The diversity of CA is amazing and I still do have a wee bit of passion towards my home state...
