Congratulations on winning a tough fight.

Best of luck to our new leader

Note to Republicans:

It is high time for the religious right to get the boot. The anti-abortion, abstinence, anti-gay stuff is outdated crap. We have more important battles to fight rather than mess around with unpopular social issues. The religious right will still vote for us, we (the conservatives) don’t need to do their moral policing.

"Palin 2012" has a nice ring - if you're a Democrat. The knives will certainly be out in the Republican party, as the power that's held an uneasy coalition together is lost. They're going to have a long road to rebuilding, and it wouldn't be surprising if, instead of learning from what's happened, they revert to the pure gospel of Nixon, Reagan, Bush and Rove. I agree with JPT, though - if there's a future for the Republicans in anything like their present form, it will be with much less influence from the religious right and bloody-minded nativists, of the Palin variety.

Cross-posted. Really, can't we keep post-election blathering to one or at most a few threads today? Everyone else has been more than patient about all the political stuff we've posted.

JPT-Amen to that brother/sister...you summed up exactly what I've been thinking. Conservatism has some good ideas and phioosophies that America needs to balance Liberalism for a healthy democracy. No party benefits from it's extremist elements. Good on you JPT!

JPT: more important fights.... like restoring fiscal conservatism?

doing away with all the things you listed above is exactly what your party and this country needs. Do that and you'll push "our side" even harder which is a good thing.

LEB suggests Palin 2012. She's exactly what you describe above. Run her and expect another land slide. It's time the neocons get the final nail in their coffin and your party takes back, well, your party.

It is time for a change on so many fronts and the whack job religious right etc. etc. is probably on it's way out of favor (or as you say "outdated").

peace...

JPT:
Good stuff there!

Obama has no choice but to work with everyone that he can. The new( perhaps old) Republican party will form out of the people who seek constructive dialog.

In the end, Obama will be central to the survival of Lincoln's Party. If you read his speeches you know that thought makes him feel really good when going to sleep every night. (Assuming he gets a chance to sleep.)

If I believed differently than I do I would hazard the guess that Abraham Lincoln feels the same.
