SOOOOO stoked when I heard the news! But so far I only see tour dates up to March 09. Any other info about added tour dates?

My guess is they will put out an album and announce another summer tour...and hopefully a festival that everyone can attend.

Given the history at Hampton and the anticipation of the band reuniting, I expect a big ol mess. I think they shoulda pulled a sneak attack, like the "Warlocks" at Hampton back in 89. Hoping for the best...

I can already smell/taste the garlic grilled cheese and "kind" veggie burritos cooked by cute hippie chick in her VW.

Hopefully I won't have my vehicle burn to the ground on the way to the show this time. (R.I.P. 63 VW 15 Window Deluxe Microbus) : (

Depending on the venue(s)it could be a fun ST/Phish head gathering paired with some climbing.

Did Trey get out of rehab? still on the H ? Seen lots of early and late shows back east. Hampton during last new years run was sick. The Coliseum looks like a spaceship...encored with 2001 ...awesome show

DJS,
Our rig burned up on the way to Red Rocks in '96! That's a funny story. Told hippe chick/friend to check her oil!

Word is Trey is all striaght now, after getting arrested, who knows.

I'm sure the scene there will be out of hand, but that's not what I go for.

I did my undergrad at UVM, so I was able to see 'em for free all the damn time. My sophomore year, Fishman used to hang out on my dorm floor a bit; he was friends with somebody down the hall. Anyway, he'd pedal up the hill on his clunky 10-speed with a backpack full of Milwaukee's Beast and regale us with zany tales of questionable veracity (road-tripping across the country in a stolen Wonder Bread truck, for example). My old banjo teacher played on a bunch of their earlier albums, so I got to hang out with them a little bit. Picking bluegrass backstage or just shootin the shiz, or even just bumping into one at the deli or whatever. Pretty early in their rise, but you could feel the momentum, and I remember a lot of earnest growing pains. Anyway, good dudes.

PS - Hadn't heard about the herion, but Burlington was awful close to Montreal, and there always seemed to be a lot of opiates around. Drag. I wish them all the best.

Never Saw Em'. Who are they? A computer virus???

Trey Anastasio feeling the love, The Coach House, San Juan Capistrano, Summer 1992.
Dinner was part of the ticket cost, 15 bucks, a ton @ the time.
Three shows @ The Warfield Theatre in 1994 were the last of 75+ Phish events. Great @ the time!!!

This song always had a climbing connection for me. They kind of lost me after this album.Oh, I have tasted Nectar fries, and they are good.

Rift
Last night, in the moments my thoughts were adrift
And coasting a terrace, approaching a rift
Through which I could spy several glimpses beneath
Of the darkness the light from above could not reach
I spied wings of reason, herself taking flight
And upon yonder precipice saw her alight
And glared back at me one last look of dismay
As if she were the last one she thought I'd betray

So much better I said to myself
And drawing quite close to the top of the shelf
I struggled with destiny upon the ledge
And gasped when defeated he slipped off the edge
And silence contagious in moments like these
Consumed me and strengthened my will to appease
The passion that sparked me one terrible night
And shocked and persuaded my soul to ignite

So much better I said to myself
And drawing quite close to the top of the shelf
I struggled with destiny upon the ledge
And gasped when defeated he slipped off the edge

And silence contagious in moments like these
Consume me and strengthen my will to appease

The passion that sparked me one terrible night
(And shocked and persuaded my soul to ignite) x5

That whole album is my favorite. Rift was amazing, with songs like horn, its ice, mound, and maze, i thought it blew the others out of the water, this of course excluding live albums. We could always drive all the way there and try to score tickets in the parking lot old school style. what say ye bone

Have any of you found that the longer, deeper jams lend themselves to electronic music? I toured for a while, saw maybe 50 shows, and always found myself liking the 2001 jam, or the long jam on Hood, etc, to be my main attraction.
Eventually, I stopped sewing and holding up an index finger, hitchiking and making grilled cheese(WTF, it's only a buck...), and ventured to other musical styles.
After a time, I found myself drawn to the SF electronica scene, namely Lorin, Freq, An-Ten-Nae, and Ana Sia. I realize this might not be common, but I find that the really deep, blue lights sort of jams are what influenced my taste for electronica.

Just a thought...

Brandon,
Have you seen the "IT" documentary? Or heard the "Tower Set" from IT?

The band talks about how IT was sort of a rebirth of their music wich culminated in the Tower Set. It's pretty out there with effects and distortion, loops, etc...and sounds very electronica-ish.

I think that is where they wanted to go with their music post hiatus in 2003 (well thats what they said anyway), but they kept falling back into the old Phish mold, partially to please the high expectations from the fans to play the big jam songs at shows.

I'm exited to see what they come out with in March, and I'm hoping it's a new Phish. If've seen enough Hoods and Antelopes, those would be fun once in a while, but I'd much rather hear them play new songs and explore new sounds.

I'm still a sucker for the old stuff- Col. Forbin, Lizards, Divided Sky, etc..
With all the band members staying busy and playing out it will be interesting what they do together and how they sound. Hopefully they come out west.

Rift was indeed a fantastic album. I loved studying to it back in high school. I should really dig it up.

Picture of Nectar and Rift will both forever remind me of hauling ass up to the Forks or the Pit in the early 90's. Phish's show in Prescott was a hoot! $3.50 I think! After the show I went up to Groom Creek for some moonlight lysergic antics and found a fishhook with line and lure on top of one of the tallest boulders. Cosmic!
