Meaghan made a weekend trek to Shelf Road and didn't invite me.

My feelings are not hurt. Not even a little. Nope.

Dammit, why did she ditch me???

Today my Dad's 91st birthday falls on Thanksgiving…and the synchronicity does not go unnoticed by me. My Dad was/is part of the Greatest Generation. He served his country well after graduation from the Naval Academy. He lost his beloved younger brother in WWII. He buried his 27 year old wife and was left with 3 children under the age of 7. My two older brothers and I were raised by him when the word "Single Parent" didn't really exist. Barely 15 years after losing our Mom he buried my oldest brother, a Vietnam casualty. He never remarried until we had all graduated from high school. When I asked him "why", he said he saw our Mom's face when he looked at each of us. When we were little he would take us fishing. I hated the slimy feel of putting the worm on the hook. He or my brothers would bait my hook. Finally one day he said if I wanted to go fishing I needed to bait my own hook. That metaphor has stuck with me for my whole life as guidance for being independent and the importance of making our own way.
Last year after a colonoscopy the doctor said to him "everything is fine, see you in 10 years". Ya know, I think it could happen….even though he's 3000 miles away I just can't conceive of knowing he isn't on the other end of a phone call.

An old friend of mine, subsequently one of my TacoBrethren, said the most beautiful thing to me one day while skeezin. His wife had just given birth to their daughter and when I asked how the new little family was doing, this proud father looked at me and said, "I never thought it was possible to be in love with two women at the same time."

I'll never forget that.

It, forever, changed the way I looked at this guy.

VERY SWEET!

Where do 22 years fly? Twenty-three on March 31st (it was Easter Sunday that year). My lil bunny....his nickname from me has always been "Ace".
