Afraid you might find yourself suddenly President of a large superpower? Need to brush up on foreign policy?

Just look at this picture.

(View of Big Diomede, Russia from Little Diomede, Alaska)

That's all, folks!

This is an official position of the McCain campaign.

PALIN: And, Charlie, you're in Alaska. We have that very narrow maritime border between the United States, and the 49th state, Alaska, and Russia. They are our next door neighbors. We need to have a good relationship with them. They're very, very important to us and they are our next door neighbor.

GIBSON: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?

PALIN: They're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.

GIBSON: What insight does that give you into what they're doing in Georgia?

PALIN: Well, I'm giving you that perspective of how small our world is and how important it is that we work with our allies to keep good relation with all of these countries, especially Russia. We will not repeat a Cold War. We must have good relationship with our allies, pressuring, also, helping us to remind Russia that it's in their benefit, also, a mutually beneficial relationship for us all to be getting along.

PALIN: I do believe unprovoked...

That is a joke, right? Unfortunately, the US Media never really covered what really was going on there. A good example was that Fox NEWS interview of a US Citizen who was, at the time, in Georgia (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8fAlZDepM0);. Unfortunately, Fox all of a sudden had to take commercial breaks... It is a fact that the Georgian army marched into South Ossetia on 08/07/08 and killed civilians. How much damage they exactly made is not entirely clear, however the russian's march into Georgia was a direct consequence of that.

True, the Russians went in with force because Russian citizens were attacked, but didn't an other country we know very well do exactly the same? And the whole war in Georgia was good for the US anyway. Now, the anti-missile contracts with Poland could be finished much quicker than before...

Now, back to climbing!

Thank you Dryschio...Palin blows her first exam on the Georgia/Russia conflict, but then again she's being coached by the Republican propaganda machine.

Isn't Condolezza Rice a 'specialist' in Russian affairs? Look where that got us. Maybe we need a person who isn't 'studied' in Soviet affairs and just deals with people instead of 'understanding' them.

And, yeah, these threads are getting really desperate now.

You're totally right bluering. We need someone who doesn't know sh#t about sh#t to finally get sh#t done. It's couldn't POSSIBLY be that the guy in charge had no judgment and knowledge about virtually nothing. It's that they were TOO KNOWLEDGEBALE.

Way to strike a blow for the Dimwit Movement that seems to have taken hold in America. Remember...knowledge isn't bad. It's only people WITH knowledge that are bad.

Skipt your quoting in entirety just makes her sound even more dumb. Gibson asked WHAT INSIGHT does living near Russia give you? She responded "we live near them so we need to be friends with them." He asks further and she basically repeats that line over and over again. Thanks for sharing it.

"the Georgian army marched into South Ossetia"

um...south ossetia is in georgia

"the russian's march into Georgia"

um...even if you count south ossetia as independent, that doesn't justify the russians invading georgia all the way to tblisi

"the Russians went in with force because Russian citizens were attacked"

um...they're not russian citizens; south ossetia includes ethnic russians and ethnic georgians...as of this month, the president of south ossetia declared no interest in joining the russian federation

after russia invaded georgia and started bombing georgian civilians, how did obama--the top man on your ticket--respond?

he urged "restraint" from BOTH parties...will that be his response when iran sends a nuke over to israel? or when north korea does the same to south korea? will he ask americans to show restraint the next time we're attacked?

There is a reason why polite dining requires the exclusion of religion and politics from conversation topics.
