Don,

Awesome photos, thanks for taking the time to post them. I love the Kronies there, great edging shoe. Just the toe shape and undercut edge I’m looking for right now.

One thing really cool about that shot of the weeping wall is you won't see any other bolts anywhere in that photo.

Thanks for that

Very cool Don. Thanks for posting the pictures.

I can only imagine what it must have been like to be climbing there in the late 60's. And how pristine it would have been. In that picture it almost looks like a carpet of pine needles at the base of the Pirate. If so, it sure hasn't looked like that for a long time.

Hey Rob! Great post. Great read, henny. It does it fact make me wish I was there.
DonC, your pictures seem to capture something words can't.
By-the-way, anyone know how Lee Harrell is doing? where he's at?

Looking at that photo I realize that's where I first knew I wanted to climb more than anything else.

Suicide is such a beautiful place to climb - perfect rock, alpine setting - an ideal escape from urban SoCal. And so much history...

dig: today after lunch i ambled over to the local climbing store and sat down to catch up on magazines (what, anyone actually BUYS those rags anymore?) so, out of the corner of my eye i catch the vogel/gaines climber's guide to tahquitz and suicide and reach for it, wondering exactly what they rate those things these days. randomly open the book and there is a remarkable dimes photo of henny on P2 of valahalla. must have been a wide-angle lens 'cause you see the whole damn face and henny is this little bug in the middle of this absolutely stunning expanse of perfect granite. swear to god i was whisked away. maybe it's the smell of fall in the air, or the trees just turning, or a lost longing for that little jet of adrenaline i'd get whenever we'd set fingers to stone at suicide. whatever it was, it sure reestablished the notion in my mind that i must, i must, i MUST go to suicide this fall. which means soon. my whole head is aching for the place right now.

maybe i'm not as old as i thought...

So Hades p2 has settled in at 13a? I did it on a tr the same season that I failed on the Pirate.

Hangover is probably too scary as a lead for lots of folks. I backed off that one the same year.

I do miss Idyllwild this time of year, but jeebus that town is different with that downtown plugged up with that ohio-river-valley-style stockade.
