O-man--Those Sailworks monofilms will sink your ship every time--I can only imagine the deep despair of watching it all go up in smoke. San Carlos was a pretty little town with Catch-22 beach.

Learned to drive in one.

Owned a beater bug in the early 70's for a few months.

But, now that I commute by bike fairly regularly I can't help but think that the Germans tried to get even for losing WWII by exporting the carbon monoxide generators left over from the gas chambers.

Circa 1972 Mathes, Nancy, Peggy Lou and I drove this yellow convertable from the Meadows to Billings and points between. Had an Idiots Guide and a few tools.. I was the mechanic and managed to solve all the problems we encountered. Made it back to Portland with No Brakes Whatsoever. I won't bore everyone with the details, but it was an adventure for sure.

Here's Jeff at the wheel....

It was a literal VW convertible convention.

Circa 1965 and none of the above were on board, the car was red, no women, no book, and the trip was Chula Vista to Punta Banda. Sleeping in the front seat of a VW is not recommended.

Now that these are past the 25 year point, if I had the cash to import one, I would.

My ticklist: 1968 Squareback, 1967 bus, three 1974 914's and a 1970 911T.

The John Muir VW repair manual should be mandatory reading in all high schools.

The first time I ever heard people cheer in a movie theater, it was for this scene

Love that bus on a trailer, pulled by the same bus!

So weird that Volkswagen has overcome its underdog status, to become the largest car company in the world, only to throw a wrench in its own works, to regain its status as the company you don't quite trust... Again!
