Hey all-
You might recall some gigapixel images we have done before on Yosemite at http://www.xrez.com. We are planning a much larger high-resolution project in Yosemite soon which should really benefit climbers, you can read about it here:
http://www.xrez.com/yose_proj/Yose_index.html
On Sat May 30, we will have 20 photographers shoot coordinated gigapixel images all throughout the rim (http://www.xrez.com/yose_proj/Yose_valley_shoot_locations.jpg), covering most of the walls in amazing detail. We will then map all the gigapixel images to a 1M high resolution 3d model and extract a continuous long image of all the valley walls, potentially one of the largest terrestrial images to date. This will end up online w/ deep zoom capabilities of the entire valley. Anyway, I know the climbing community will benefit greatly greatly from this, so wanted to give a heads up! It probably won't be completed until early August, but should be a great reference once it is online.

Ed and I were listening to you guys Saturday as we climbed Sentinel Rock. By chance, we were on the same FSR Channel.
Looking forward to seeing the results of your effort.

Spotting Gary and me in the pano will be a real test of just how comprehensive the shoot is!
We were in a very unvisited place... (and one I'm not likely to ever return to, at least the upper scramble!).

This should be fabulous. You will be able to take anybody up to any posistion and show them the belay. the funny Hueco whatever. Absolutely fantastic, if you never took a photo, but waht to see if the graphitti is still scratched in the rock, there it is!
Video games for rockclimbing just got a big jump. I can do Salagenella again, forever!! Like twister only with touch sensitive handholds on my rolling treadwall. if you attach rotating handholds on the wall, you can have it reconfigure based on the next moves and simulate the transistions of the actual climb as the posistion rotaion sensor keeps it all 12" above the gym pad/ballpit/ground. Use the 3d audio-video headset, and you have a new invention. Valley Climber -- the most famous of the newest 3d indoor wall Killer Apps -- Patent Pending.
And "The Yosemtite Federal National Park (In Service to Ourselves)" will retain all Licencing rights and fees to all Images of Yosenighty in Perpetuity.
Legal disclaimer : Which will be under my control just as soon as Fattrad give me the Super Job upon election of McCain. Thats is how it works in American for thousands of years and I am really hoping it will just one more time...
(Hey "indoor Wall Killer App"... Hey can I get an internet intelliectural Copywright (tm) Here? lot of money is going to be made by somebody and it might be me. That and a million dollars, please?
If I could just get a nickle a word on the internet, I could make it a living. Is it true that the best things in life are Free? I must be first rate.)

The project sounds great - but as Clint pointed out: still a few bugs?
I would hope the cloning was not intentional, as that may be misleading...
Staying tuned,
Erik

Christ, Clint. Thanks for this. This is not the left side of Goodrich in detail but cloned-in for sure. It just is not.

You guys are blowing my mind.
First the OP for having this expansive vision and then putting it together. Kudos
Second to Clint for being aware, awake and curious enough to spot the cloning
Peace

You can't 'shop such a tiny area of a HUGE picture like that (and why bother ?) . You're just confusing what it looks like in person , with : from a long ways away .
