... Rolling Stone, in an early example of snark, likened Van’s performance to “Porky Pig doing the can-can.” It must be nice to be a smug, superior music critic, right? Whatever it may have looked like, those powerful kicks that Van delivered at the end of the song were a powerful part of the majesty of his performance, and the evening in general.

i lost my nephew to a motorcycle and the need for speed yesterday in Las Vegas.
Anthony was just getting the "jigsaw puzzle" we call life put together at the age of 29 when his life was cut short.
i will miss him more than i realize at this moment. in this large family of mine, he and i had more in common than i do with my brothers.
here's a pic from ten years back, forgive me for coming here to grieve; but i don't know where else to go.

couldn't sleep, so i come here where sleepness nights aren't all bad.
i appreciate the kindness, understanding, prayers and love. sudden death is hard to accept; but we have to roll on. Anthony would certainly roll on.(that is to say if he, like myself, he could get out of bed to start with.)
that infectious smile will remain with me for forever. and i have the honor of taking over the roll of master to his dog "Blaster".

wilbeer, appreciate the thoughts. I'm headed to FL for a family memorial Fri on the beach. It is Anthony's parents who are in the deepest of trenches.
