Rosetta Tharpe's guitar style influenced Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley among others. Her gospel style influenced Little Richard and Ray Charles. She also influenced white performers like Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, and the Jordanaires.
This performance was from a tour of England she did with Muddy Waters and others at a train station near Manchester

I've always wondered (not really, it just popped into my head) whether, if Rosetta Tharp had teamed up with Mick & Mick & Keith, she would have become Rosetta Stone? It has been asserted, though not proved, they once followed her to the station.

Clearly the guitary lick at 3:00 was borrowed from Ola Mae who got it from Rosetta. (from The Slide Guitar: Bottles, Knives & Steel)

As Tears Go By. 1964.

She was an inspiration behind Wild Horses.
She is still today convinced that her boyfriend murdered Jim Morrison.

The above performance is interesting in that to the casual listener it sounds like the same 4 measure sequence repeated ---- when in actuality it progresses from a 4 bar motif based on the root note ,to 4 bars based on the subdominant, then 4 bars based on the dominant, and then back to the root----in a pentatonic scale. There are some interesting dissonant notes/overtones to boot . There are numerous 16th note pick-ups at the end of several 2 bar segments

Nice Ed. Sort of like Laurie Anderson meets Kronos quartet. Nita told me to check it out. Good share. She has become the fret board.

This Beethoven string quartet was one of 4 he wrote towards the end of his life--- his last major works. This particular video is missing the second movement but otherwise an excellent job by a group of young ladies.
Beethoven's last quartets were the final expression of pure genius by an one of the world's greatest artists. Of course he was stone deaf, old, alone, and in ill health when he composed these masterpieces. Absolutely mind-blowing. A tour de force of creative mastery.
