According to Steve Cropper the song came from a d.j. who hung the moniker, Mr. Pitiful, on Mr. Redding for his recording efforts. I guess everyone is entitled to their opinions; although sometimes the thought of expressing them should be suppressed.

Tobia. Got the flashdrive, thanks. I do not remember any Ry Cooder songs about or recorded in CV. One of the members of Cream (can't remember which) got busted here on the way back from Tijuana for "public urination". Some other rocker got busted a ways up the highway by Camp Pendleton for going something like 140 mph.
CV is on the list of the most boring towns in the U.S., but The Zeros are from here and Conga player Javier Cabanillas, who opened for Ry Cooder (at least once) taught here.

i wonder if any other thread on the taco containing 16600 plus posts has virtually no ill-will, criticism or hate, other than negative posts directed at the thread itself? Indeed there may not be a thread with 160 posts without these negative traits. i venture to guess it is more of a statement on the magic of music than personalities, considering my tendency to show my butt occasionally elsewhere.
i'm in a weird space today, as my sis moved to Alexandria, VA yesterday to try to gain a stronger foothold in life after trying here for the last 15 years. She's my strongest ally in a family of seven siblings, we have more in common than all the others combined, as we have similar struggles, both internal and external. i couldn't say that 15 years back, as i didn't know her as well prior to her return here from FL.
Forgive my excess verbiage, as well as pushing it with yet another John Prine song, one that expresses my joy for my sister's new start, as well as that empty feeling when them changes come.

I remember clearly when he passed away. I grew up with his music, and my mother and father seemed quite upset when the accident happened.
