Nice job. Getting the gear back is huge and good to hear. I'm checking craigs list for my stuff next.

"But how does the Valley Giant come into play? Did I miss something?"

I was just referring to my impression that Jake's Valley Giant helped him convince the police that the rack was his, as opposed to someone else's rack with the 'usual' assortment of regular-sized cams, stoppers, biners, etc.

Very Cool! I love hearing these stories!

After ~$30k of stolen goods in a handful of incidents, the only two items I have retrieved have been my Mtn bike and my Fish maxiPad™ each after six months! (and each greatly appreciated) oh so weird!

-oh yeah style edit, my ex wife and her next husband got his old car back, (stolen while under my watch-by their grace (fucck Las Vegas!!!!!)) though that ended up costing us all, more money.

when was the vehicle stolen because i have a 96 saturn that was stolen the day after xmas with alot of my climbing gear in it, 2 pairs of shoes, 1 rope, and a harness along with some quickdraws, my car was later recovered, coincidentally aswell i found about a dozen keys sitting in the cupholder, and you said there was some other stolen stuff if it happened to be more climbing gear that wasnt yours it could possibly be mine. My insurance angent said that there are only 6 different keys for all 96 saturns, and i live in sacramento, yah its a ways away from san fran but its possible it could be the same guy.

Another thread reminded me of this story.

Eventually they found Jake's car while he was still in New Zealand and he got the climbing gear back after the trial (including Valley Giant), but I don't think he ever recovered the backpacking/camping gear.

A fine tale. Perhaps the worthy adventure can help assuage the price of the gear.

Indeed.

PROSECUTOR: Yawner, we present exhibit #9.

DEFENSE: My client bought that thing in a store!

PROSECUTOR: Yawner, it's prima facie absurd to say exhibit #9 was ever for sale in a store.

DEFENSE: Huh?

YAWNER: I have to agree. Possession of exhibit #9 by the defendant proves his guilt.

DEFENSE: Dang!

Man what a story to tell at the campfire!

Glad nobody got shot, I don't think I could stand there and not go beserker.

Fine thread bump!
