Guy Andrews, lost on Aconcongua 1980. I don't think he ever got old enough to drink in a bar!

Galen Kirkwood, lost but alive in the moldy Northwest.
On Suicide Rock with Grizzly Adams...

Paul Schweitzer (sp?) on Medlicott

Off White, foraging for toejamb at base of El Cap. Jeramiah Johnson racking up in the foreground.

Greg Epperson, the Apprentice.

Brad those are priceless - thanks so much for taking the time to scan/post.

gotta agree w/ off white about influential climbers:
eppi saw the thing in a way which has become the "modern view" of climbing - he - and Heinz Zak - influenced our lives in major ways.

thanks again Brad - funny, when Guy Andrews died, after that...I saw JB at Woodson and he said some people thought that it was me, had us confused.
I never met him - man it's sad what happened, so young.

neebee, thanks, these are all 25-30 yr old photos. So Cal folks from that era will know these guys indeed.

John Mac, 'Epson Perfection 4490 Photo'. Wife bought it, don't know the price range. 4 slides at a time=8 minutes. Does negatives, the few I've tried came out kinda green, but they're 30 yrs old so we'll see... Prints (& t-shirts & chalkbags!) are very fast.

Ray, my P.O.S. Vista PC hasn't read a CD or DVD in months. Many, many, many hours with HP support failed to fix. Training with medicine ball, almost ready to hurl the m-f'er through the f'ing wall. Sorry, where was I, oh yeah, had to grab driver off the Web, so don't have bells & whistles.

Oh, what a sweet slice of familiar history, thanks Bee Hay.

I think that virtually useless old Climb Axe was Guy's. Galen and I borrowed it for an ice climbing trip to Lee Vining and lost it for him by leaving it planted in the 2x4 and visqueen camper shell on my old pickup, it didn't survive the drive home.

It was another 20 years before my rotting crud collecting big toenail grew out and got normal. Huffing toenail cheese is a gateway drug to harder stuff, I hope Salad dodged that bullet.

Climbed with TS couple times this year, still looks the same, except for the wrinkled , leathery skin, and (more) bowed legs.

I forgot to mention in my 1st post that Guy Andrews is the one who saddled me with the Bee Hay moniker. Still got that stink on me 30 yrs later. He's probably cackling in his icy grave.

Scuffy B,
What an eye for detail you have! Those are indeed Black Beauties! She searched all over for them, as they were almost nonexistent in San Diego. Those were reputed to be the supreme edging shoe/boot, they were absolutely 100% stiff! Especially in her very petite size. BB's put my RR's and PA's to shame.
Today, it's difficult to imagine free climbing in those things. What were we thinking? "Smearing" was yet to be discovered.

I remember that trip. Being the seasoned alpine type, I sat most of the day in the snow covered east face cirque with out sunglasses on a bluebird day. Rubbed sand out of my eyes for the next 24 hrs. and still have the blown blood vessel in my eye. I'm pretty sure all the gear I'm using, including boots, was borrowed from Brad. He was a giving soul, and loved to loan me his gear back in those days.....snicker.

What happened to Frank Noble? Didn't he do an early lead of Paisano Overhang at Suicide (after Largo's)?

.....well,ok. That too. Or: Previously Small, Overweight Ass Syndrome

that's a good pic of it in Wiki. Iliopsoas is the psoas and iliacus. they both end at the same place on top of the femur, so you usually have problems with both. I've also blown most of the hip abductors. Massage therapy for the psoas is a real treat. It's been described as the closest thing a man will ever come to knowing what it's like to give birth. Sweet.
