Because it's practically my backyard and because I love the place.

Time for a JT burl bump!
Last Saturday (Halloween) I was climbing with my friends Jorge and Sonja (aka s.d.) and we stumbled upon this incredible splitter out near the Arid Piles. No info in the guidebook, none online. Size runs from #3 camalot to #4 camalot.
Sonja getting psyched for the send!
full bore!
A nice healthy dose of steep!

I am looking for the quintessential climbing shot to put on the cover of an updated climbing brochure for Joshua Tree National Park.
If you would like to donate a picture please contact me.
Thank you very much.

More or less learned to climb there.
Scared myself silly multiple times, and learned a lot in the process.
Got to rub shoulders with some of my early heroes.
Walked through the desert (a lot).
Did some stupid things in my youth to people that deserved much better.
Got bitten by a rattler and did the death march back to the car before getting antivenom at the ER and watching my lower leg turn black.
Climbed some cool FA's there.
Worst crack gobis ever came from Josh rock.
Have come across random cave art where I least expected it.
Saw huge carp of all different colors in Barker Dam BITD.
Saw the NPS screw up the "Monument" of my youth by rerouting and closing roads. And then went back years later and realized it was still a magical place.
Climbed some of the hardest "easy" routes I've ever done.
Nowdays I return a few days a year and enjoy it every bit as much as I used to.
It's no wonder people come from around the world to enjoy it.
