I tried to get Kinley in the same frame as her namesake, but she was in no mood to stay still for a picture. Places to go, things to sniff you know.

We did get a good glimpse of her namesake.

Still a few patches of snow for her to bound through.

And a nice little hemlock forest to wander through.

Emma is doing much better. The new Vet is great. He yells at me when he's teaching about her glucose curves and care at home, it's just his way, and that's how I like it. It shows that he cares. Either that, or he thinks I'm a total dumbshit who can't hear. Anyway, her glucose levels are coming down closer to normal to the Vets satisfaction and I'm learning about when insulin is working or not, and when it's not, to throw it out and start with good insulin. There's more to it, but I'm just reporting that her treatment is progessing for now.

Unfortunately she's still really skinny but the Vet says that is OK for now as long as she's not losing any more weight. Her brother Luke has 20 pounds on her now, and I wish there were some way to fatten her back up again without screwing with her blood sugar. Got to find the right dog food, the high protein stuff that I give Luke, she's allergic to and throws it right back up again. Right now she's on Hills WD for diabetic dogs and she eats like a horse, but still hasn't gained any weight back.

I'm glad Emma is doing better. Her story really speaks to getting a second opinion.

Meet 'Moqui', a one year old Shiba Inu mix we adopted this morning from the Boulder Humane Society. He was a rescue from a Houston shelter and now has a permanent home in the mountains with us.

Moqui looks awesome!
Congrats to both of you.
That's an interesting breed.

The season has begun.
Gone are the days of crash pad nap to crash pad nap.
Those short little legs know how to cover some ground,
with still plenty of time for napping.

Nice pic of Django, Bad. And Moqui looks like a real score.

So many lucky dogs in this thread. "The best thing humankind ever did: domesticate the dog."

I took Moqui for a walk near our home yesterday. He was tentative at first on all this strange terrain, but gained confidence with every step and by the end he was negotiating dead falls, juniper patches, deep snow, and third class rock with aplomb.

Last evening we had 7 deer move into our yard, so I put him on leash and led him out, made him sit, and remain by my side while the deer did all the things deer do. He watched very intently, but never budged even when they bounded off. Rabbits on the other hand...

Yeah, rabbits always made my doggies go nuts. Kutya, my collie/keeshound mix would go all Tasmanian Devil whenever she saw a squirrel.
