My dog Oliver is a designer dog.
Designed by a Golden Retriever and a more-or-less Collie.
A very successful design it is. A one off (well, 7 off)

smart as a whip if it involves food or running away
if it involves doing what i wish him to do
not so much
no matter
i shake my head and smile a lot
i'm a little like him

Our little terribeagle has none of those runaway beagle genes.

She's sick tonight though, so we're hurting.

It's the 'hybrid-vigor', or mutt, thing. I tend to like mutts more than purer-breds. But you also lose some off the keen traits of the breed when cross-bred.

Beagles have that trait because they are hunters. They seek, they bark, and run till they find the prey.

They call Staffordshire Bull Terriers "The Nanny Dog"

Seems like most of the rescue dogs at the pound now days are some type of Pit. Here’s my Pit mix enjoying the skin track.

It's the same here. And it's a damn shame. Pits are not exactly the kind I'd get from a shelter, especially with a small kid. This is one of those breeds where you need to get them young and raise them properly.

It's too hard to guess the history of the adult Pit's.

Good luck, Bookworm.

This one had a malignant melanoma tumor when she was two ( she turned 8 last month ) on her left foot ( that black spot on her foot is what's left after radiation treatment ).

They're doing things for dogs they can't do for people yet, but what is being learned treating dog cancer might one day.
