Miss Aya, I know that some people who have diabetes eat several small meals a day, instead of 3 regular meals... Do vets, ever suggest that to pet owners with diabetic dogs???... Just wondering...

So I don't know anything about the gut transit time and so on of people, but for dogs, because of the amount of time takes for food to move through the stomach and get digested and absorbed into the bloodstream, and because of how long the types of insulin we have seem to last in the dog, I find that feeding and giving insulin twice a day works the best in the vast majority of cases. Also, if you think about it, doing feeding/insulin three times daily would be really difficult for the vast majority of dog owners who work 8+ hours a day and are out of the house. Diabetic humans can bring their insulin with them - dogs can't give themselves insulin if their owners are tied up at work late.

Cats, I often say that letting them graze throughout the day is fine, again because of the physiology of how their bloodsugar varies after eating. But, I still recommend insulin twice daily for them, as well.

Rob.... cookie was a big dog in a small body... with a huge heart. You and Melinda were very lucky to have had Cookie stay with you for a while.
I have found that with some time things get better. Take care, hope to see you soon.

Vet called:
Luke's tumors were cancer called hemangiomas but BENIGN!! Completely excised. No worry about spreading. Got it all. Possible he could grow more somewhere else some other time...but right now he is completely healed. Stitches come out on the 15th. Gorilla taped cone repairs holding for now.

This little stubby-legged beagle mix made it to the Hornli Hut on the Matterhorn! He or she
had to have been helped on a few sections but my hat was still off!
