Wow. That Tagwaulder ice axe is pretty well identical to the Stubai Aschenbrenner unit that I was using when I cratered on Colonel Foster in 1973.

If I had to marry a mountain, the Matterhorn would be my choice. I'm pretty sure it was love at first sight for me. I've never forgotten this early love at the tender age of 14. Bridget Bardot, Eva Gabor (Green Acres) and her sister Zsa Zsa (some Sci-Fi flick), and maybe Agent 99 in Get Smart, and the Matterhorn (and maybe Tooth Rock in Poway), not necessarily in that order.
Edit: Oh wait - also I Dream of Jeannie (and, if we're counting through 1974, the Vampire and the Edge at Tahquitz).

Tap ICONIC into Google Image - their algorithm must be broken.

MATTERHORN is supposed to be at the top of the heap.

It ain't Zermatt, but it's cheap to get there.

The final approach is brutal - not so cheap, these days.

The regular route is runout.

BETA: climb up fast, then run out the front gate.

And he’s so tough he ties in around his neck!

The Matterhorn Museum is so cool. I could go on...

Yes, the teddy-bear followed on the Matterhorn North wall. Look at the sleeping bag in the upper part of this photo showing Bonatti's north wall equipment.
