Miss Stella has a fleece coat for when it's cold.

Miss Stella wears a helmet when there are falling rocks.

Feline thread hijack - LEB started with the cats. And Loki is a girl kitty. She can climb and dyno way better than those dog people, too.

Plus this reminds us that winter is on its way.

LEB: Nature has a dog, Summit, who looks just like yours. Come to sushifest - you'll see.

my cats are the light of my life. they always make me feel better. i have two, d. and bump. on friday d. was peeing blood and took her to the vet - this was all right before i had to rush out to a fugly math test - it was so freakin scary. luckily she only has a bladder infection. i was so scared. she is 14 years old, but i'm not ready to lose her, esp. not right now. i don't have any digital photos. but d. is yellow and white, and bump is a lovely calico.

WAY OT

So lois, I guess I can safely assume that his handsome dude, Taber;

Can see colors? He is agile, he took a thirty footer out of an Aspen knocking over the ladder of his would be rescuer, consequently breaking her back.

Also I want to take this opportunity to 'out' LEB, as a climber,

-"when we camp in the National Forest just outside city limits."(of Flagstaff, (edit))
obviously she is talking about the campground by "Le Petite Verdon," & so she's also a sport climber.

LEB: "PS, MH, I forgot to tell you that orange colouring is a sex-linked trait in cats. That makes a female orange cat the equivalent of a color blind female person or else a female hemophiliac. The difference is that unlike those diseases the orange colour is neither a survival advantage or disadvantage - just sex-linked recessive and follows Mendalian genetics."

Considering that most of the genes of our domestic cat come from North African wildcats, and considering that cats are stealth predators, their colouration is a considerable advantage. The stripey patterns that most cats have blend well into a semi-desert environment, as does orange colouration.

I believe that only male cats can be solid orange - orange females always have some white patches. But I don't know why.

Yeah, I guess it's time for some Cat-on-Dog love.

This is my cat, Turd Ferguson. 'Nuff said.

Back OT (sorry, but all my dogs have been boys)
Fascinating cat facts, Lois, I have always wondered about that stripe-y thing with cats.
and don't forget tortoise shells as well as Calicos (that are always females)

The agouti non-agouti gene thing was something about which I didn't know; but it makes a lot of other things fall in place.

You should have been at Wide Wednesday tonight LEB, to hear 'dinner with a scientist' candidate ScuffyB expound on applied genetics, you would have been as fascinated, as we were.
