I promised Ken not to release this but I have to.

Next year Jeff will be responsible for providing the drumming.

Dragging my thread slightly back toward topic...

It sounds like people like maps, to keep track of what's happening, and what's happened. Possibly the NPS has some quite large scale maps of the Valley proper, and copies could be made. Perhaps one master map, on which each day's progress could be marked as it happened, and a daily map, on which areas that were being worked on could be marked. And, of course, a smaller scale map of the whole park, for general progress. (And large scale maps of Tuolumne Meadows, and Wawona?)

This would take some effort, but might provide an easy graphic way to keep track of people and projects and things, plus look good on TV and stuff. It may be more difficult to do it orally or in writing, and as time goes on and the FaceLift gets larger and involves more people, it may be important to more accurately track them. Thoughts?

George and Ken and others did a great job of keeping track of people and things, but a souped up map may be worth looking at.

I'd guess for the Valley proper (Arch Rock - Curry Village, anyway), a map would need to be at least 1:5,000, to show enough detail. The map at the Visitor Centre this year helped a lot, but didn't have quite that detail.

Anders,

NPS provided all three maps, custom made to the sizes I wanted, with my own coordinates and state of the art in this vicinity. I have been offered Google Earth Pro for next year, I would need someone to run that part of it complete with GPS units. Do you guys think it is worth it? Planning question.

Thanks for your input. I may be a geek but not a computer geek.

Brilliant - hopefully there's a SuperTopian familiar with GPS and GIS, who can comment on what's possible. Though the challenge may be integrating it all, and I don't know how well GPS and such work in the Valley itself.

Someone else had the idea of getting some road cones, maybe with flags, for the teams working on the roads. Both to mark their start and finish points, and to draw attention to there being people on/near the roads.
