Anyone wanting an afternoon laugh should look at his website - www.alainrobert.com - titled "Spiderman Official Website". It's very French. The translation has improved somewhat, though - the earlier version was hysterical.

Edit: Not dissing Robert - just his website.

I know he is a shameless self promometer, but. . .
Cut the him a little slack, he's got some serious guns for a skinny guy.

Hey man this guys a badass. Self promoter? Yes, and he can back it up, too!
Alain was doing this sh#t when Michael Reardon was still in diapers. He's got to be pushing 60 at this point.

Remember the Mammut ad with Alain decked out in buckskin pants, fringes and all, in the middle of what looks to be a 60 - 80 ft whipper?!

The way everyone slobbers over DanO and Mr. Reardon, I think Alain deserves some slack.

At least he's still alive....

I'm with you guys...that shot that Matt posted of Alain Robert climbing on the
GG Bridge is probably the most bad-ass thing I've ever seen - gotta find that pic...

Edit: GG Bridge clip starts at 4:34...

I liked the part of news report of how he "naturally suffers from vertigo", as he's waving the flag on the lip.

Pretty cool.

He'll have his work cut out for him when they build this one, taller than El Cap:

Alain Robert has been pioneering sport climbing with Patrick Edlinger, he got bored with the usual face climbing and went for sky scrapers to build a unique career, too many young climbers were not yet born to criticize those guys. Alpine climbing has started in the Alpes and it was a solo integral sport long before gym and gears came along, sport climbing was highly promoted late 70's by those guys and ant the Gorges du Verdon in France.
If you are curious YouTube those guys.

Alleged gridbolting and toproping aside, the sharp French limestone, blue rivers, red wine, they seem ok enough, one supposes.
